@EmpireCityBO@AlienAnthology He tries so hard to sound pseudo-intellectual. A thesaurus is always at his disposal. I know this sounds anti-intellectual, but he just never seems to give a genuine opinion. His reactions and reviews are always in service of a personal agenda and/or vendetta.
@AKlay19 The laziness is really what got me too. Especially towards the end when it attempts to get very meta. It was literally to the point to where they were stating facts and statistics opposed to actually telling a joke.
@effoff1988 This is 80s/90s level of word of mouth phenomenon. It’s insane. It while it might face its first weekend to weekend drop this weekend, with the run it’s having so far, it would not shock me if it went up again.
Some box-office analysts are saying that the success of BACKROOMS proves that studio executives should stop relying on established brands. And while I wouldn’t argue with the sentiment, BACKROOMS *is* an established brand! Just not one that over-50s are familiar with
@GraceRandolph Will be interesting to see how they leverage this in regards to potentially broadening Backrooms into a franchise, as well as what other high profile films, with blockbuster potential get the green light.
@GraceRandolph Having seen it myself, the only thing I will say is that the movie is visually and technically impressive, while being rich in atmosphere and dread. However it’s held back by a haphazard collection of weighty themes that it simply rushes through. The beginning of the third act….
I think it’s time to start entertaining the idea that we might be seeing a second weekend hold for Obsession on the level of Get Out and Sinners. This mid-week grosses are crazy #Obsession
#Focus’ R-rated original horror #Obsession becoming a phenomenon at US #BoxOffice!
YouTuber #CurryBarker absolutely ISOLATED at #1 grossing incredible 3.2M on WED, just a -11.1% drop from an already spectacular TUE Discount Day (vs #IronLung 1.7M, -6.3%, #SendHelp’s 1.5M, -41.4%), despite playing in just 2.615 theatres.
It hits a 27M cume in just 6 days.
The film itself had a ridiculously low under 1M production price tag, and #Focus paid only 15M to acquire the global distribution rights from producers (sans France, Russia, Australia & NZ).
Both sides seeing their investment paying off greatly.
People need to realize that having a bias isn’t inherently a bad thing, but glossing over that bias and pretending that bias isn’t there is when it becomes a problem
@effoff1988 I’m very interested to see how high it goes. $50M domestic final total feels safe at this point, but I feel there’s an outside chance it could leg closer to $60-$65M. Either way very impressive for both stars.
@ItsRainingBen Honestly, the idea of her literally flying above the theater/Broadway community is enough for this to be a no-brainer decision. Because I am sure that is going to happen in some shape or form.
@effoff1988 I loved it and I cannot understand the criticism I keep seeing online that it’s just a carbon copy of the original. Like is everyone watching the same movie?
