Winner picked tomorrow (Monday) at NOON ET!
Drew Rasmussen is on fire in his last 15 starts including the playoffs! ๐ฅ
The Rays starter is 11-0 with a 1.73 ERA in 93.2 IP, 99 K, and 18 BB! ๐ช
He now has 2 starts this postseason with 7+ IP and 1 or 0 ER, all other Rays pitchers in their postseason history with such games...2!
Steelers have now converted 3rd/16, 3rd/10, 3rd/13 and another 3rd/16 that the Bucs were lucky to have called back because of an illegal shift. All in the second half.
Embarrassing for Tampa Bay
Junior Caminero hit that ball 110.7 MPH at 29 degrees.
Statcast history, 110-111 between 28-30 deg.
180 previous balls. 180 previous HR.
Cold weather, and the deepest part of the park, and ... well, just bad luck, too. Brutal.
There's a lot of discourse about empty seats at MLB Playoff games. Here's a crazy take: what if this shit has just gotten too expensive?
A seat in the upper bowl is $200. Then there's taxes and fees. Then there's parking. Then the $12 hot dog. Then there's the $18 shit domestic beers. I love drinking beer at games, but do you ever stop and think about how much you just paid for a Coors Light? We are getting straight up skull fucked by concession prices.
Logistics can be one argument, sure. But I'm not going to sit here and breakdown getting to/from Tropicana because you've heard it a hundred times (unless you're Max from Pardon My Take who doesn't even know the Rays aren't in Tampa, moron.)
As a sports fan, obviously you want to see these stadiums packed and the atmospheres at their bets. But in the real world I think it's fair that some people don't want to spend half their paycheck going to a game.
I'd consider me and my wife in the upper echelon of diehard sports fans. We plan our lives around our teams, including having full season tickets to the Lightning and a quarter season plan to the Rays.
We make it a point to not schedule any vacations during the Stanley Cup Playoffs window or MLB Postseason. It's that serious.
We chose to not opt in to this year's Rays postseason tickets because of the cost. Full stop.
Could we have done it? Sure. Would it have been the wisest decision to make? I don't think so.
The cost of our seats increased by approximately 103% for the ALDS, 338% for the ALCS, and a mind-boggling 790% for the World Series. We haven't even gotten to parking yet.
That increased by approximately 233% for the ALDS, 333% for the ALCS, and 400% for the World Series.
I'm well aware that prices increase for the playoffs and that the league sets those, but the amount these increased is astronomical and out of reach for a large percentage of fans.
Single game prices are even more expensive, when you consider Season Members are offered their seats at a discounted rate.
Because of this, we only purchased tickets to Game 1 of the ALDS and Game 1 of the ALCS.
I hate that we can't be in attendance for every game, but making a foolish (and emotional) financial decision isn't the answer. I can't begin to imagine how out of reach this is for families with children.
Fandom isn't defined by asses in seats or if you're willing to go into debt. MLB and sports throughout North America need to look in the mirror and stop the greedy profiteering.
Ragging on fans for choosing work and essentials over tickets and arrears only makes you look bad.
Iโve seen enough people ask that Iโll break down the math.
Brandon Aubrey XP%: 97%
NFL average 2Pt rate: 48%
Key assumptions: You score twice and get stops. OT win probability is 50%
If you kick the XP twice, you have a 95% chance of sending game to OT, 50% chance of winning in OT. 47.5% chance at winning the game.
If you go for two:
Get first, kick XP on second and win in regulation: 46.6% of time, win 100%
Get first, miss XP and go to OT: 1.4% of time, win 50%
Miss first, get second and go to OT: 24.9% of time, win 50% of time
Miss first and second 2-Point: 27.6% of time, guaranteed loss
By going for two, your win probability jumps to 59.8% chance.
So if you guarantee me we get two scores and two stops, youโll win ~47% of the time kicking extra points, and ~60% of the time going for two.
The reason it doesnโt jive with coaches/fans is because delaying a loss feels psychologically advantageousโฆ but losing in OT vs losing in regulation is the same result
I don't know how he does it, but Todd Bowles somehow gets every critical decision wrong
it's amazing how predictable he is at picking the worst thing to go with, without fail
