Today, another serious attempt was made at #SongpiLamka Torbung by the Meitei community under the pretext of IDPs, involving @ArambaiTen96606 #Meiteileepun, Manipur Meitei militants, Myanmar Meitei militants, and the @manipur_police, who crossed the buffer zone separating Kukiland, India, and Manipur, India.

This act is a direct and deliberate challenge to the #KukiCommunity. The buffer zone exists to prevent bloodshed and escalation. It must be clearly stated that only the presence of #CentralForces prevented a larger confrontation. Had the buffer zone not been protected, the Kuki Community would have been left with no option but to defend our ancestral land, dignity, and survival.

We strongly urge the highest authorities of the Government of India @PIBHomeAffairs @rashtrapatibhvn @AmitShah @Spearcorps to strictly maintain and strengthen the buffer zone. Any compromise or selective enforcement will only fuel further instability and injustice.

The Kuki Community reiterates that peace cannot be imposed without justice. We demand that the buffer zone remain intact until a permanent and just political solution for the Kuki people is achieved. Our demand for a political solution is not a threat it is a constitutional and democratic right, and it must be addressed with immediate effect.

The Kuki Community seeks peace, but peace must come with security, respect, and political recognition. Any further violation of the buffer zone will be seen as an intentional provocation and a failure of the state to protect its own citizens.

Tension gripped Torbung and Phougakchao Ikhai villages in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on December 16 after suspected Kuki militants allegedly carried out bomb blasts and gun attacks. The villages, located in a vulnerable peripheral area between Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts, had only recently seen residents return after being displaced for over 2.7 years due to the ongoing conflict.

Fresh attacks have once again forced villagers into panic, prompting authorities to rush additional security forces to the affected areas.

Merahouchongba – The Festival of Two Brothers

Father and Mother are no longer with us,
Yet their spirit breathes through this ancient bond,
Between the Elder Brothers of the Hills
And the Younger Brothers of the Valley.

Long ago, the elder remained among the mountains,
Guarding the sacred highlands of our ancestors;
The younger descended to the valley,
To till the fertile plains and build a new home.

Though distance lay between them,
Their hearts remained one,
Bound not by sight, but by love,
And the eternal rhythm of the land they share.

On this sacred day of Merahouchongba,
The younger brother lights a lamp pole in his courtyard,
Its warm flame rising toward the dark hills,
A signal of life, of love, of remembrance,
Saying softly, “Brother, I live, and I am well.”

From the hills, the elder replies,
Kindling wildfires-lammei-upon the ridges,
Their glow dancing back through the night,
Whispering, “I too live, and I am well.”

Thus, year after year, under the same moon,
The people of Manipur, the children of both hills and valley,
Keep this sacred flame alive.
For Merahouchongba is not merely a festival,
But a vow that though the rivers may divide us,
And the hills may rise between us,
Our blood, our spirit, and our destiny
Shall forever be one.

And so, I teach my children this sacred tradition…
That they too may light the lamp with reverence,
And their children after them,
Keeping alive the eternal bond of the Two Brothers,
So that the flame of unity shall never fade.
