This is such a good piece on the chaotic world of Oldham council by my LDR colleague @Ch_rlotteHall, who knows the patch so well. Do give it a read:

Awful news. Phil was the local MP when I started at the MEN and was very helpful to a young news reporter. He was great fun, loved a bit of mischief and never took things too seriously despite, at one point, taking a very high profile position. He was also a massive Manchester United fan and once joked over a pint that when he was in government he helped tweak the rules to allow them to sign Carlos Tevez. ‘And what did the little bugger do? Left them a couple of years later and signed for City!’ Rest in peace.
@vicderbyshire You obviously weren't to know but this story originated on the Manchester Evening News, investigated and written by @jameshjourno. Unfortunately the BBC ripped it without crediting the source. Sadly this isn't unusual. https://t.co/oCnyoVsZpE

A criminal investigation has been launched..... into who gave the Manchester Evening News footage from Manchester Airport which showed the moments leading up to a police officer appearing to stamp on a man's head while he lay on the ground. https://t.co/bXVsY52mfV

You join me at Manchester Crown Court where a defendant, in response to being identified over videolink, called a judge: "Your Majesty".
A perplexed looking clerk looked to said judge who simply replied: "That's a first."
The front page of today's @MENnewsdesk following yesterday's Oasis reunion announcement. I spent the day in the Gallaghers' old stomping ground of Burnage speaking to fans, and the man who famously sold them songs when they were just 16
