Perhaps will sound pessimistic on this one, but I’m against the Ugarte deal.

Have watched lots of footage of him and I see too many weaknesses to like the deal.

- receiving and playing under pressure looks difficult
-> gets ball stuck under his feet often

- refusing forward passing options
-> is it helpful retention or simply avoiding clear forward passes

- inconsistent duel winning technique
-> would say “rash” rather than efficient

- refusal to delay approach on opponent, stand off and allow numbers to come back
-> doesn’t slow down often enough on arrival to a duel

- goes for the early bite which leaves to him getting spun early
-> throws his whole body weight into a challenge, easily manipulated by opponent

You’re also going for a loan + obligation let’s say of around £50m in total. What happens if, next summer we don’t really see value in keeping Ugarte or if there’s a change of manager for instance who doesn’t want to use him?

This is a fee you’d pay to a starting DM, not a squad player. I would much rather go for a cheaper market opportunity this summer like Mandela Keita/Anton Stach~ £25m, which leaves a starting DM signing open for next summer when Casemiro most likely leaves. Much lower risk.

Can’t get behind this deal too much, unfortunately. I feel like the idea of Ugarte doesn’t match the reality, and his weaknesses may get found out at PL level, in ETH’s setup.

If this deal was ~ £30m, it’d look a bit more favourable, because you’re getting much better value for money without possibly harming your future DM business. However, with how the deal currently looks, I think this would be a bad move.
