#sapsHQ [OPERATION SHANELA STRIKES CRIMINALS HARD: 23 011 SUSPECTS ARRESTED INCLUDING 6 807 ILLEGAL MIGRANTS, 121 FIREARMS SEIZED IN SAPS NATIONWIDE CRIME CRACKDOWN WITHIN A WEEK] The #SAPS continues its relentless efforts to combat crime and illegal immigration through #OperationShanela II, conducted between 29 June and 05 July 2026.

During this period, a total of 23 011 suspects were arrested for various offences nationwide. Detectives further arrested 2 391 #wanted suspects, linked to serious offences including murder, attempted murder, rape, illegal possession of firearms, carjacking, possession of drugs, house and business robberies.

As part of the intensified crackdown on illegal immigration and related criminal activities, the SAPS arrested 6 807 illegal migrants across multiple provinces for contravening the Immigration Act.

The SAPS, working closely with other law enforcement agencies, remains on high alert to safeguard communities and property during ongoing anti-illegal immigration protests across the country. While recognising the constitutional right of citizens to protest, participants are urged to conduct themselves within the ambit of the law. Citizens are also reminded to refrain from circulating unverified information on social media platforms.

Furthermore, members of the public are cautioned not to take the law into their own hands. ASSASSINATION PLOT SUSPECTS ARRESTED:

Two suspects have been arrested in a multi-disciplinary operation following an investigation into an alleged assassination plot targeting a senior Department of Human Settlements official in Alberton.

The investigation began after the official reported in 2024 that she was being targeted after allegedly blocking corrupt activities.

She allegedly received death threats, suspected hitmen reportedly monitored her movements, and shots were fired at her home.

One suspect was arrested in Dundonald, Mpumalanga, where licensed firearms and ammunition were seized for forensic analysis.

A second suspect, an administrative clerk at the Department of Human Settlements in Alberton, was arrested at the department’s offices.

Investigators also seized firearms, ammunition, laptops and cellphones as part of the ongoing investigation.
