Nick Sorter (@nicksortor) and I almost got killed last night at the autonomous zone in Madison.

We were hanging out and decided to drive by. Nick got out of the car and made jokes. They started coming at him. I was screaming in the passenger seat.

Nick called 911 directly after the incident and the cops were wonderful. I have no complaints about how they handled it. They want to go in and arrest people. The city and the mayor needs to allow them to do their job.

The fact that some people misinterpreted what "fully clothed" means is irrelevant at this point. Nolan Wells was discovered wearing only the swim trunks he was photographed in the day he went missing. The real issue is that @AttorneyCrump falsely stated during his press conference that the @Unitedcajunnavy told Nolan's family that he was found fully clothed, and then went on further to invent a story about him wearing a shirt. None of this is true and at no time did we ever discuss what we witnessed during the recovery with his family. We understand that controversy drives likes and clicks, but people need to keep their eye on the ball. Misinformation has harmed this investigation and the community of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. We will continue to call out misinformation when we see it and correct it with facts. @NancyGrace

I spoke with my mortician friend again today and sent her the photos from Nolan’s independent autopsy, asking for her professional opinion. She gave me permission to quote her:

“Pressure from an autopsy headrest or positioning device could definitely leave a temporary pressure mark or area of discoloration, particularly on a recently deceased body. During an autopsy, the head is commonly supported in a cradle or head block to keep the head and cervical spine stable while the examination is performed. The location and shape of the discoloration are consistent with the type of pressure artifact that can occur when a head is supported on an autopsy headrest or positioning device. Pressure artifacts are a recognized part of postmortem examination, so this finding alone does not establish trauma or foul play.”

The problem isn’t that the independent autopsy was performed. The problem is how Ben Crump chose to present it.

Instead of having a qualified forensic pathologist explain which findings were routine, expected, or insignificant, Crump read graphic portions of the report himself in a way that sensationalized normal postmortem findings and implied they were evidence of foul play.

The result was entirely predictable, considering what we have already seen online. Routine findings from a secondary autopsy were presented as though they were shocking revelations, creating questions that often have straightforward forensic explanations.

Rather than informing the public, Crump fueled speculation and encouraged people to fill in the gaps with assumptions instead of evidence. He accomplished exactly what he set out to do.
