Observed by Malayali Hindus & Tuluvas in the Indian states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, the festival of Vishu marks the first day of Medam which is the ninth month of the solar calendar, Vishu also marks the beginning of spring and celebrates an abundant harvest.
The most significant event of the day is the sighting of the Vishu kani during dawn, which is believed to bring luck throughout the year. In Malayalam, the word 'kani' means 'that which is seen first', hence, 'Vishukkani' means 'that which is seen first on Vishu'. Vishu Sadhya (feast) is a major part of the festival when vegetarian food is prepared. Vishu Kanji (porridge), Thoran and Payasam (pudding) are essential items of the feast.

Bohag Bihu signifies the harvest season and the beginning of spring. It is celebrated with feasting, singing and dancing. To commemorate the new year, men and women perform the traditional Bihu dance. The celebration of Bihu takes place over a span of 7 days. In the observance of Bohag Bihu, people wake up early and bathe with raw turmeric and urad dal paste, wear new clothes and seek blessings from elders followed by jalpan - a light breakfast of sticky rice along with curd and jaggery.

An important and much overdue initiative. There is a huge gap where elite organizations and a small group of privileged individuals have hijacked the conversation, often with a manufactured narrative that drown out reality on the ground.
A thoughtful, data driven and balanced analysis like this is very essential in a world powered by circular citation loops, flawed surveys, leading questions and biased data models.
Inspirational. A life size statue of Swami Vivekananda is unveiled in Seattle city. His 1893 speech in Chicago continues to resonate with Americans of all stripes even today.

Thank you @MayorofSeattle and @SeattleCouncil
In 2021, @Hindus4HR strongly endorsed a conference where a speaker claimed "Hinduism is against democratic values & a danger to independence, equality and brotherhood". Another claimed that Hinduism inspired Nazism.
It was moderated by HfHR's own advisory board member Balmurli Natrajan. (9/n)

Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR) is back at what they do best - elevating those who hate Hinduism and want it dismantled. PLUS glorifying homophobic and antisemitic folks like Pieter Friedrich, who has made a career out of hounding Hindu Americans who profess any pride in their faith or roots.
@Hindus4HR not only supports such bigoted, incendiary and un-American rhetoric against a Hindu, they actually celebrate it. We highlight some of their actions and double standards in this thread. (1/n)
HfHR uses its moniker to claim to speak for Hindus - BUT a significant portion of its Advisory board is itself NOT HINDU.
Self-declared leaders of NON-Hindu faiths should not get to speak for Hindus on Hindu issues. We need authentic representation. (2/n)

Friends, check it out! #NoAryans teach the #ConizedMinds how artificial this theory of Aryan invasion/migration is. They artificially divided the languages with made-up 20th century linguistic theory and then they racially imposed it on #India. All for what? To appropriate the #Vedas and ancient history of India and to deny Indians what was theirs. Doesn’t make sense at all!
New research has significantly changed the academic consensus on early Indian history. The Aryan Invasion theory (AIT) and has been dismantled to the extent even its proponents talk instead of Aryan Migration (AMT) and even Out of India (OIT).
Yet this discredited theory continues to have such a grip on popular imagination. We ask @ProfVemsani , Professor of Indian History at Shawnee University, why this might be? Check it out.

Great to see young Americans standing up and speaking out against the deliberate hate targeting entire communities, including children.
This is grassroots advocacy at its best. We hope they inspire more to step up and speak up, because haters thrive when they are allowed to go unchallenged.
Ever wonder what’s driving the surge of anti-Hindu and anti-India narratives? The online world seems flooded with racist memes, triggering graphics, Hinduphobic slurs and tropes. Recent research from @ncri_io at @RutgersU analyzes data and finds that far from being an organic upsurge, much of it is a carefully constructed campaign. Extremist networks and professional activists are manufacturing hate and propaganda targeting Hindu and Indian Americans and action is needed to tackle the issue.
Watch our discussion with Dr. Joel Finkelstein and @prasiddhaa_ , the team behind the research as we compare their data with other recent reports and find out what is really powering the Anti-Hindu Hate Factory.

When identity, community, and advocacy meet in one space, something shifts.
The Hindus of Long Island (HOLI), CoHNA, and our Hindu Parents Network brought together advocates and community leaders for an inspiring event.
From educational presentations to meaningful conversations, this event created lasting momentum.
Don’t just take our word for it. Hear what the attendees had to say about this experience!

We were at the Brampton Triveni Mandir and @surreymandir today. Our sincere thanks go to @PeelPolice and @SurreyPolice for their proactive measures in preventing potential escalations.
In Brampton, Khalistani extremists were kept across the road under the city’s ‘Protecting Places of Worship from Public Nuisance Demonstrations By-law.’ In Surrey too, buffer zone was maintained via a Supreme Court of British Columbia injunction obtained by the temple, while B.C.’s Bill 13 (Safe Access to Places of Public Worship Act) is still moving through the legislative process. These specific legal mechanisms were vital today in reducing the risk of direct confrontation and ensuring the safety of devotees.
The buffer zones may contain movement, but it does not erase targeting. Hindu devotees had to walk past provocative displays of political murder and slogans to “kill”, simply to enter their place of worship. No community should have to navigate hate, just to pray.
The choice of the Brampton Triveni Mandir is particularly disturbing. By selecting a temple built and sustained by the Caribbean Hindu community for a "rally" against the Indian government, Khalistani extremists signal that any visible expression of Hindu identity is a legitimate target for confrontation, regardless of the community's history or origin.
The most concerning outcome of this "managed" situation is the shift of responsibility. When authorities frame these events as "orderly," the burden of safety falls on the devotees. It is the worshippers who are advised to avoid contact, adjust their movements, and navigate around a conflict they did not invite.
Public safety cannot be reduced to simple crowd separation. It must account for context, intent, and the fundamental right to access a place of worship without facing staged intimidation. A society truly committed to equal protection and genuine religious freedom should not allow the targeting of sacred spaces to become the new standard, which is unfortunately a new normal now in Canada.

What if the path forward for our planet lies in wisdom that the modern world has forgotten?
This Earth Day, step into a much-needed, cross-cultural dialogue with CoHNA alongside voices from Mexico and Africa.
You will get to explore how living traditions shape our relationship with Earth and what it truly means to take responsibility today.

Hindu Groups Condemn Planned Khalistan Protests Outside Temples in Canada
Be it Canada or US, CoHNA stands for the protection of Hindu temples and right of Hindus to practice their faith free of intimidation.

We are seeing an alarming escalation in the open targeting of American Hindus. Here a post targets an American temple, built with all requisite permissions and with private money as a strange sinister place that is part of a broader “plan”. Others have broadcast private individuals conducting religious rituals inside their own homes and driveways. We are seeing the scouring of social media feeds from Hindu Americans to present normal everyday activities as “problematic”.
These are Americans exercising their most basic rights as Americans- the freedom to worship as they choose. And millions of Americans today choose to be Hindu.
This sort of online targeting results in real harm on the ground. Since Dec 2023, nine Hindu temples in the US have been physically targeted, with the Spanish Fork Hindu Temple in Utah facing gunfire in June 2025!
We will be advocating against this sort of hate AND celebrating the 250 years of USA in our national capital this summer like millions of other Americans. Join us and fight the hate.
