MP for Westmorland & Lonsdale. Former leader of @LibDems
Promoted by M Barwise on behalf of T Farron both at Acland House Yard 2 Stricklandgate Kendal LA9 4ND
I find watching England more painful than watching @rovers - it’s because I’ve seen Rovers win the league, the league cup and promotion… which makes all the current mediocrity quite bearable, but with England all I’ve got is trauma (chiefly 90, 96, 98 and 20/21). Come on 🏴😬
The threat is even broader than universities — Jewish communities across the whole country are living under serious menace.
@TimFarron said: “Last week, I was talking to the security guard at my surgery in Kendal. He said his work has increasingly been around Greater Manchester supporting Jewish communities at primary school gates and synagogues. It occurred to me that I can just walk into our local primary school and go to my church without any thought whatsoever of security. Yet for some Jewish people in our communities, these are not safe spaces to go.”
Exactly. Jewish people now take it for granted that their institutions need to be guarded and secured; non-Jewish people take it for granted that theirs do not.
Universities, schools and colleges should all be safe for Jewish students.
As proud members of Access Unlimited, we’re pleased to support the campaign to ensure every child has access to outdoor learning residential experiences.
It was great to welcome local MPs to our recent Westminster drop-in and highlight the life-changing impact these opportunities can have on young people.
I'm deeply concerned by the news that North Tyneside Council have announced that they will be closing High Borrans Outdoor Education Centre in Windermere from November.
I've written to the Chief Executive of North Tyneside Council, asking her to urgently review this decision.
A pleasure to attend Access Unlimited’s parliamentary event highlighting the importance of outdoor residential experiences for children and young people.
Time spent learning outdoors can help build confidence, improve wellbeing and create lasting connections with nature.
In 1945, almost half of the children who survived the Nazi death camps made a new life for themselves on the banks of Windermere. - where the fantastic Lakes School now is.
We are working to build an exhibition about the Windermere Children alongside a rebuilt Lakes School 👇
Some farmers have also lost free school meals and transport to school for their children as their annual farm income does not meet the government’s model. I’ve heard of people being told to leave their farms and homes as the universal credit cannot cope. Tax credits worked.
Tim Farron does well to highlight challenges that concern farmers.
It's just nuts that some have to rely on Universal Credit.
Even worse that some can't access it when required.
All work should be rewarded with a decent income, not state top ups.
Rural poverty especially within the some farming communities, is very real with many farmers working for much less than the minimum wage. Like many rural issues, this is so little understood nor recognised.

Hill farmers are facing crippling costs and severe cuts to their income.
But many aren't able to receive Universal Credit because they don't earn the minimum wage every month.
I'm glad the Minister for Employment has agreed to meet with me to discuss how we can support farmers.
Labour's Farming Roadmap is facing fierce criticism from opposition MPs, who say it falls short of giving farmers the confidence to invest and produce more food.
Tim Farron warned England risks being left behind the rest of Europe, while Conservative MP Charlie Dewhirst described the plan as "shockingly bad", claiming it will increase bureaucracy, costs and take more farmland out of production.
Do you think the roadmap gives farmers the long-term direction the industry needs?

A win is a win! Decent second half. Better teams will make it easier for us to play our game…and they will also, obviously, expose our weaknesses. We’re pretty good, but I can’t see us winning the World Cup, sorry. Also… Engerland, Engerland, Engerland…!!!🏴
