Kathy Mazza had already spent years helping people before 9/11.
She was a former nurse, a Port Authority Police captain, and the kind of person who knew how to stay calm when everybody else was terrified.
On September 11, she went into the North Tower and helped get people out.
She reportedly helped create another escape route through a lobby window, then kept working inside while the situation got worse by the minute.
She could have left.
She stayed.
Kathy Mazza was killed when the North Tower collapsed.
But because she stayed, other people had a chance to live.
Remember her name: Captain Kathy Mazza.
A nurse at heart. A police officer by duty. A hero by choice.

This Ryanair Boeing 737-800 was just seconds from touchdown when it flew straight through a flock of seagulls.
Several birds struck the aircraft, with some being ingested by its CFM56-7B engines. Despite multiple bird strikes, both engines continued operating normally, allowing the aircraft to land safely. It's estimated that at least 20 seagulls were killed in the incident.
It was the middle of the night, at about 1.30am, when Norway lost to England.
Yet thousands of Norwegians went to the Palace in Oslo and celebrated with one final Viking row.
They did not riot. They did not burn cars. They did not smash bus stops or glass windows of shops.
They smiled. The laughed. They saw the positive in their performance. They celebrated their heritage. They were proud of who they have been in the past and who they are today.
Norway might be out of the World Cup 2026 but they are in our hearts.
In the last three weeks, I think we have all fallen a little bit in love with Norwegians.
