The party with the majority should form the govt.
But the govt must remain accountable to Parliament, while the President retains an independent mandate from the people.
That could reduce the concentration of power and create a more responsive, accountable and stable democracy.

CS Aden Duale’s proposal for a parliamentary system deserves serious debate.
But Kenya should not simply replace the current system with one where the party holding the majority of MPs controls the entire government.

We’re used to politicians bribing voters with handouts. Perhaps the other side of that coin is the beginning of light: voters voluntarily raising funds to support the candidate they believe in.
