@carolynmichelle I'm sure there is meaning in saying Death's Door is terrible, but as far as I can see Thompson never wrote about Death's Door beyond scoring it 2/10? I re-read Saving Zelda twice last night + other articles, but in the end I'm just guessing what about Death's Door they hated.
@Thefearalcarrot Nice video. You mention how TUNIC can't really create a safety net, but it sorta does by having the manual reiterate pieces of information or refer to other pages.
If you ignore p20 then p17, p26 or p51 might put you back on track. Missing all those clues is much harder than 1.
@IsoFrieze Very cool. What language is this implemented in? Would love to get some details as last year I messed around with a procgen SMW but my generally poor understanding of the game's innards resulted in a lot of corrupt levels.
@theRazbuten@SageWaterDragon Rather than having to find predefined towers, any sufficiently high point could allow mapping of what can be seen from that point. But towers streamline mapping, making it more casually approachable. They give direction, but some players would rather "earn" that direction.
@joshbusker This gets me thinking about what people actually want from Metroidvania level design. On one hand it was nice to not have to backtrack a ton, but I also rarely had to think about where to go next in Dread. The teleportals made the world feel substantially more disjointed too.
@nonarybrain @Rotobit I feel like we already lost it. Indies aside, the Switch is largely lacks the kind of games that characterised the DS line of handhelds (& I'd argue the "3D" in 3DS already started the trend of shrunk down versions of console-style games). What Switch titles are you referring to?
@BRKeogh Similar to the education sector, game companies want to encourage enough creativity to profit off, but not so much that it destabilises their business model. They need new ideas, but also need to preserve the fiction that "AAA" games are "real" games they spent billions creating.
@BRKeogh Look forward to reading it. Since ~2017, big publishers are getting serious about trying to pre-empt the next big hit so they can own it cheap rather than having to buy it for $2.5bn. I feel in some ways Gamepass is an attempt at controlling which indies get eyeballs.
@Dacidbro @Succinct_Punchy Trials of Mana/SD3 is another big one. Evasion doesn't work at all making Agility a trap stat for everyone bar Hawkeye & shields do nothing.
The game has dozens of accessories, but most of them do nothing except a handful that secretly still have effects.
@DaleNorth Only the final arc clicked with me, but it was fantastic. It does more with these characters in six episodes that many shows do in 24+. The writing is great & trusts the viewer in a way that anime often doesn't. I felt the first half to be a bit predictable & bland by comparison.
@savrior@theRazbuten I prefer improved movement to packing everything together. Witcher's "40 second rule" sometimes made things feel more like a medieval fair than a real place. If an unnatural amount of stuff is packed too close it breaks my immersion and feels gamey.
@billiporter@willmcgugan I guess my first question would be is there a more comprehensive feature list available than on the itch store page?
As for my needs. Does it support live reloading of files that have been modified by other applications? And what kind of support for custom metadata and markdown?
@TheAdorableMac@lunasorcery@vitimus1 Prepare to do a whole lot more of that. Google is killing of a whole bunch of Google Drive and YouTube links in the near future.

@Carl_Sagan42 Just a heads up, your older unlisted Family Friendly / No Swears videos might be at risk due to a YouTube policy change: https://t.co/m66IFQEP0z
@RealDeBergerac@christinelove@NikkoGuy A few games solved this by asking the player to look up and detecting their camera inversion setting based on what they did with the right stick.
@CSnakeSchulz @ZennecFox@danfornace Getting items requires zone control, once the experienced player gets a single item it is over for the casual player.
Every change Smash made to help casuals ended up helping experienced players stomp harder. Even tripping, pros know not to run needlessly.
@tssf Considering how much of the JRPG community has been begging non-stop for Square-Enix to take some of the greatest pixel art masterpieces ever made and slap absurd amounts of bloom and other vfx over the top I'm pretty sure they can just do whatever and people will eat it up.
@theRazbuten@SunderCR My mum, never having played a game prior, handled Fire Red fine. I considered Let's Go, but it cuts some interesting player decisions out. It was fascinating to see her stick with Magikarp despite not knowing Gyarados exists, assuming it must be good later due to being so useless
