TUI members at Kinsale Community School manufacturing face visors for frontline healthcare workers. To date in excess of 3,000 face visors have been manufactured and distributed. From left to right: Fergal McCarthy, Maria Brosnan, Aaron Bowen, Adrian O’Connor and Jamie Torpey.
My friend is travelling home to Dublin from England where he’s going to self isolate with family. He’s getting the ferry & just sent these pics. Just to reassure those who think there are hoardes of people coming to Ireland that it’s best not to believe everything you hear.
The ballots should have arrived at all schools, colleges & centres where @TUIunion members work by now. I would be most grateful if you could #VoteMaura Carroll in the TUI Vice-President election. Ballots must be returned by Wednesday the 4th of March to reach Dublin by the 6th.
The pupil teacher ratio is of vital importance to a quality education system. The lower the PTR the more curricular options & resources available to schools. Lowering the PTR means more teachers, a greater range of subject choices & more time for teaching & learning. #VoteMaura
Adult Tutors and Researchers are the worst treated cohort of @TUIunion members. They are hourly paid, endure precarious working conditions without an incremental salary or consistent holiday pay. I will intensify the fight for our most vulnerable members. #VoteMaura for TUI VP
Also on curricular reform. I agree with Dr. Declan Kennedy of @UCC that @NCCAie needs to explain to teachers why it fails to produce subject specifications of an international standard; it needs to explain why they should not contain the depth of treatment required for learning.
On curricular reform, I support the principles set out in the @ainehyland report prepared for @IrishSciTeach Annual Conference in 2014 & the outcomes of the report commissioned by ISTA (2019) to record the views of science teachers on the new Junior Cycle. I trust expertise.
Tertiary education is underfunded. Increasing student numbers & stagnant funding undermines its primary purpose in educating people so that they may fend for themselves. It must be publicly funded. I support @TUIunion's call for a 1% levy on corporation tax to fund 3rd level ed.
TUI members should know that in seeking election to the office of Vice-President of @TUIunion, I have fully funded my own campaign. I have not used members' money to fund my election costs. I started as a volunteer at TUI and I will continue as a volunteer. #VoteMaura for #TUIVP
@TUIunion members should know that the composition & quality of our leadership directly impacts their lives at work. Above all, I value honesty, integrity & accountability to ensure that the best interests of TUI members are served. Proper utilisation of union funds is vital.
@TUIunion urgently requires greater transparency & accountability in how it conducts its business. A firm commitment to safeguarding union funds is imperative for me. It is a cornerstone of my VP campaign. If elected, I promise to do my best to hold TUI to account. #VoteMaura
I am standing for Vice-President of @TUIunion because I want to see an end to #paydiscrimination & a full restoration of #equalpayforequalwork for all lesser paid teachers, lecturers & educationalists represented by TUI. The way to achieve this is by ensuring honest leadership.
Ballot papers for the election of TUI Vice-President will be in schools/centres from tomorrow. I would be most appreciative of your vote. I stand for proper governance & financial probity at TUI. I stand for transparency & accountability in how TUI conducts its business. Thanks.
The campaign for Vice-President of TUI is underway. I would be most grateful if any TUI members who were good enough to follow me here would kindly oblige me by retweeting my poster to get the ball rolling. Thanks for your support. There's more to follow this. Time for change.🙂
Well done to all @TUIunion volunteers & members who stood in solidarity today with their lesser paid colleagues. Thanks also to @astiunion members for their firm & continued support for the fundamental & righteous principle of #EqualPayForEqualWork#TUIstrike#StrongerTogether
A journalist, Lyra McKee, was murdered in Derry last night. The PSNI have described it as murder. Why not the same by our Taoiseach, President, Tánaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister, Justice Minister, or the UK Prime Minister or Northern Ireland Secretary?
Our sincere condolences to Elma's family, friends, her colleagues in Carrignafoy Community College and her wider Cork ETB colleagues. She will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace. https://t.co/TCe35sFI95
