My speech at a @LabWomenDec event, on why the draft conversion practices bill is so troubling. Not an exaggeration to say this bill represents one of the most dramatic, disproportionate and illiberal incursions into our fundamental democratic rights 👇

The ICC is the cornerstone of the international criminal justice system. It prosecutes individuals responsible for the most serious crimes under international law.
I have spoken with ICC President Tomoko Akane following the United States’ announced intention to impose sanctions. The six-month period before the measures take effect offers a window for dialogue.
The EU has always supported the Court, and the EU has options to ensure that it can continue its vital work. Protecting the ICC remains an EU priority.
The UK stands with the International Criminal Court and we stand united with our partners in strongly disagreeing with sanctions imposed on the Court.
The ICC must be permitted to continue its critical work holding perpetrators of the most horrific international crimes to account.
We're thrilled to announce the fantastic winners of the Love Where We Live awards 2026.
Thank you so much to all our winners and nominees for their fantastic contributions to our borough every single day.

"'Silenced' Horsham councillor suspended by Lib Dems after Equality Act dispute...Sam Bateman, said she had been 'silenced' over a motion she hoped to table regarding the Equality Act and the legal definition of a woman." This is so disappointing. 1/2 https://t.co/8GR0JiO9db
Another hanging, hello world can you see this??
On Sunday, when his family went to see him one last time, at the end of the visit he refused to let go of them. Guards had to forcibly tear him away from his father and mother.
His nam is Alireza Raeisi, born in 2004, had barely turned 22 years old.
That night was the last time his parents ever touched their son. On Monday at dawn, the regime hanged him in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan
His crime? protesting on January 2026 uprising, executed for demanding freedom.

A sundial, originally gifted to Tunbridge Wells by our twin city of Wiesbaden, Germany, has been installed among the plants in the colours of the Fairtrade logo. On Friday, you may have seen staff and volunteers refreshing the flowerbed!

@Xcvsss184064@imranmahmood777 So, when did the current wave of immigration start? A few decades could be back to around 90s?
Are you excluding the post war immigration/windrush generations?
What about when Britain first joined the European Economic Community?
When Protestants fled France for instance?
@Xcvsss184064@imranmahmood777 An important point, but doesn’t refuse the premise. We have seen significant waves of immigration. Evolution is driven by context: when context faster change evolution takes place faster. Travel is easier now than ever.
*Mostly commonwealth countries with historic ties to the UK
@Xcvsss184064@imranmahmood777 There are differences, but also many similarities.
When the first waves of immigration came from the Indian subcontinent we didn’t have significant Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi populations, but now we do.
@Xcvsss184064@imranmahmood777 Do you not believe the population has evolved over generations?
Or can you identify a group that has been subject to erasure?
Or do you object to the definition of unity of a changing entity as continuity in time and space?
@JackxJewell@cathydevine56 I’m interested by how people treat the likes of Ben Kingsley, Boris Johnson, Robert Maxwell, and Tom Stoppard?
How do “English is an ethnicity” crowd treat surnames adopted by the English - French, Irish or Welsh names?
Given names often pass with fathers, is it sexist?
@Nicoledso It’s crazy that this has become a thing.
I’m intrigued by the idea that there is a separate ethnicity for some people between the Scots and the English.
We’ve shared a nation state for 300 years with freedom to travel around, but apparently we still ethnically distinct 🤷♂️.
@Xcvsss184064@imranmahmood777 The nation and population has evolved over generations. Nations and populations evolve and change. It’s still the nation and population.
I can’t think of cases of erasure here since we stopped executing and excluding religious groups.
We have continuity in time and space.
