Captain Anthony F. Lucas helped shape Texas history by drilling the world-famous Lucas Gusher at Spindletop Hill near Beaumont, Texas. 🛢️
Born in Split, Croatia, he arrived in the U.S. in 1879 and later worked as an engineer in Louisiana. While studying the Gulf Coast Region, Lucas became fascinated by the strange mounds scattered across Texas and Louisiana, convinced they hid underground petroleum reserves.
