DYK: During the original Olympics, the Long Jump would be contested with participants carrying 10lb weights in each hand. This would simulate warfare training.

DYK: On April 6, 1896, James Connolly (Harvard) won the 1st medal of the modern Olympics - Triple Jump, the first Olympic champion in 1,527 years! He also placed 2nd in the LJ and 3rd in the HJ.

Leo Manzano (Marble Falls), Jake Merrell (Turkey Valley), and Will Boyce (Onalaska) are the only boys to have won UIL State gold in the 800 / 1600 / 3200.
Albert Booker of Trent HS is the first boy to win UIL State Championship gold in the 100, 200 & 400 meters. In total, he won 8 golds over the 2000-01 seasons before heading to Texas Tech.
