@GuruAnaerobic @EdLatimore For me, I always wanted kids, but in a realistic way. Funny thing is I didn't really like other people's babies until I met my nephew (and eventually niece) and I felt something I had never felt before. Kind of a preview to having mine.

It's tough in a couple ways. Baby years, less sleep, diapers, feed, etc. Toddler through 5-6 is the pushback, patience. 6 til teen pretty straight forward minus getting them to eat veggies, wash and brush hair/teeth.

The overarching toughness (which I think is where many stray away) is inherently being 2nd (or 3,4,5). Your own decisions must constantly put you behind your kid in a way.

Lastly, responsibility. I know a few of my friends that I believe are inherently scared of the responsibility.

I will say my parents went few years back and said lots of homeless and mess.

@stephen_e_meyer Also has to do with surface energy of the materials. Copper ions do the damage. Polymers tend to have low surface energy.

Wood is likely due to its natural ability to withstand microbes and fungi. Not sure if it is enzymes or what.
