james baldwin was so right when he said you think you’re alone and then you pick up a book and realise someone else has felt the same way as you and managed to find a language for it. the realest shit
My favorite James Baldwin line: "There is a reason, after all, that some people wish to colonize the moon, and others dance before it as an ancient friend."
People say there’s no magic in books but the fact that you can string words together to create a series of visions in someone else’s brain is still our greatest achievement as a species.
@FreshbyKarlanne@tweedledee1111@minhquangd86@RealThomSieloff I don’t think you read/comprehended that correctly. If I need to 2.94 to have the buying power of 1 then the “1” would be of higher value… also it was at its highest value from the time of introduction until the early 1980s (2.22 per 1 usd I believe).
I’ve been studying the punishment bureaucracy and suing judges, prosecutors, and police across the U.S. for more than 15 years. One defining feature of our legal system is that there is rarely any accountability for massive corruption and criminality by those with power. This corruption is utterly pervasive—it is completely endemic. And one of the best ways to understand any institution or set of institutions is to examine who those institutions choose to punish and for what. And then to look at whose crimes those systems ignore.
