Saved by God's Grace through faith, not by my own works, it is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8). NUST, NMMU & CPUT Alumni. Buchter-From the streets of Benguela!
I was affected by this retrenchments back in 2016 as an Environmentalist @ Etosha Fishing. I will never be able to explain the emotions of many Namibians that faithful day!
The Holy Spirit sees ahead. You dont have to run after prophets to reveal your future. Have a right relationship with the Holy Spirit, He will show you things come.
Let us talk about the difference between saving and investing, because mixing them up is one of the most common money mistakes, and @NamPostNamibia s products are a useful, familiar example to learn from.
Take a look at what NamPost offers. Their call account pays around 1.5 percent, their 32-day notice account around 2.7 to 3 percent, and their 60-day notice account around 3 to 3.4 percent. Their fixed term deposits pay more the longer you commit, from about 4 percent for three months up to roughly 6 percent or more for three years. They also have the Save-As-You-Earn plan, which pays 2.75 percent tax-free plus a bonus at the end of your contract, rewarding you for staying the full term.
These are savings products, not investments, and that is not a criticism. It is simply what they are. A savings product keeps your money safe, your capital is protected, and it earns a modest, predictable return. An investment, on the other hand, aims to grow your money more meaningfully over time, but it comes with more risk and more ups and downs along the way. The two do completely different jobs.
Now here is where inflation comes in, and this is the part most people overlook. Inflation is the rate at which prices rise, which means your money slowly loses buying power over time. Namibia's inflation is currently around 4.4 percent. So if your savings account is paying you 1.5 or 2.7 percent, then in real terms your money is actually going backwards. It may be growing on paper, but it is buying less each year. Only once your return is above that 4.4 percent are you genuinely getting ahead. You will notice that only NamPost's longer fixed deposits manage to clear that bar.
This is exactly why the difference between saving and investing is so important. Savings products are perfect for your emergency fund and money you will need soon, because they offer safety and access which is more important than beating inflation. But for long-term goals, money you will not touch for 3 or 5 or twenty years, you need returns that comfortably outpace inflation, and that is the job of investing, not saving.
You will also notice a pattern in those NamPost rates. The easier it is to access your money, the lower the return. The longer you lock it away, the more you earn. That is the trade-off with saving: you give up access in exchange for a slightly better rate.
So neither saving nor investing is better. They serve different purposes. The mistake to avoid is putting money meant for long-term growth into a savings product and expecting it to build wealth, when inflation is quietly eating away at it. Match the tool to the job. Know whether you are saving or investing, and choose accordingly.
This is not financial advice, just something to think about. Cc @mieyolisa@souckym
This tradition of sitting on the mattress when you’re mourning is how so many widows have lost their inheritances and assets. You’ll be confined to that mattress while people are busy removing your belongings. 😭 Cry in the lounge, my loves. Cry while holding your policy documents, title deeds, bank cards, and ALL the car keys. Protect your inheritance while you mourn!
@NewEraNewspaper Was this not because of NamRa's debts written off or something? turnaround strategy? The profits are definitely not from operations. The article is not saying how exactly the profits were made.
@_Twapewa These once don't play, taking your car for service? they escort you with an upgraded version of your car just to lure you into buying the new version! liker of things will not survive here😂😂😂
Paul said in 2 Timothy, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind.” A sound mind is a positive mind, a hopeful mind. It’s a mind that’s at peace, a mind that knows God is in control, that He’s ordering your steps.
@Mwah_le I noticed this too...but its fair, because two years ago Miss Namibia focused on the Zambezi's culture as the contestants travelled to the Zambezi region
As a supervisor, some of the most important people skills are:
Communication
Emotional intelligence
Active listening
Giving and receiving feedback
Coaching and developing others
Conflict resolution
Delegation
Decision-making
Building trust
Accountability
One of the biggest mistakes new supervisors make is assuming that technical expertise alone is enough. The reality is that supervising people requires a completely different set of skills.
If you are in a supervisory role without prior leadership experience, invest in your people skills. Attend supervisory and leadership courses, read books, seek mentorship, and learn from experienced leaders. Develop your communication, conflict resolution, coaching, delegation, emotional intelligence, and decision-making abilities.
People rarely leave because their manager knows too little about the technical work. More often, they leave because they don't feel heard, respected, supported, or fairly treated. Great supervisors are not born, they are developed through continuous learning, self-awareness, and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed.
🎉👏🏾I am excited for this new chapter.
