Flock has finally provided petty tyrants with a solution for the classic "dragnet" problem. In the past, mass surveillance didn't seem that dangerous because there was no practical way to micromanage such a large amount of data. Humans couldn't do it, but LLMs can. With enough coverage, bureaucracy will be able to use Flock for the pettiest enforcement of every microinfraction. Anyone defending is revealing themselves as short-sighted and small-minded. You simply don't have the imagination to conceptualize what can be done with this kind of infrastructure. Every little unimportant thing can potentially be documented and analyzed. Install enough cameras and they'll be able to ticket every roll through a stop sign and every five-over speeder. You will learn about laws against "crimes" you didn't even know existed because they were just unenforceable and pointless in the past.

And some of you will defend this because "buh da changing consumer habits" as if you should settle for being a slave instead of demanding the removal of the actual problem.

On Thursday, the European Parliament “adopted” the extension of Chat Control 1.0. This is the temporary suspension of the EU’s ePrivacy rules that allows tech platforms to mass-scan citizens’ private communications, ostensibly to detect child sexual abuse material. “Adopted” is placed in quotation marks here because the word implies something that conspicuously failed to happen: a majority of MEPs voting in favour. In fact, 314 MEPs voted to reject the text, against 276 in favour. And yet it passed anyway.

This was made possible through a procedural sleight of hand worthy of Brussels at its most cynical. The file was rammed through under an “urgency procedure”: European Parliament President Roberta Metsola unilaterally reopened a dossier that MEPs had already rejected in March, and the Council conveniently bounced it back at the start of the summer recess, when securing attendance is hardest. Rejecting it a second time would have required not a simple majority but an absolute one: 360 votes. The law was therefore approved despite a majority of MEPs voting against it. The regulation will now remain in force until April 2028, buying time for negotiations on its even more ambitious successor, Chat Control 2.0.

As German MEP @FabioDeMasi noted following the vote, Chat Control is a “legislative zombie” — a measure the European Parliament has rejected multiple times, revived again and again until the desired outcome emerges. This episode should give pause to those who insist that the EU’s democratic deficit could be cured by handing more power to the European Parliament. Here is that very institution’s president working with the Council to resurrect a file the Parliament itself had buried. If this is how the Parliament operates, empowering it further would only deepen this democratic deficit, lending a thicker veneer of legitimacy to what remains, at bottom, an executive-bureaucratic machine that treats votes as obstacles to be engineered around.

❌️Lo que es: detracción de rentas para impuestos, impedimento del gasto privado y del ahorro, transferencia de fondos privados hacia la Administración o hacia empresas de interés de la Administración. Caducidad del dinero.

⚠️CHAT CONTROL:

✅️Lo que dicen: prevención del discurso de odio, de los contenidos de carácter sexual con menores, de las comunicaciones de organizaciones criminales y terroristas.
❌️Lo que es: control del discurso, control del relato político; identificación de disidencia, asesinatos civiles.

⚠️CÁMARA EN VEHÍCULO:

✅️Lo que dicen: prevención de las distracciones y los accidentes, mejora de la seguridad vial.
❌️Lo que es: control de la responsabilidad que siempre recaerá en el conductor, control de horas de conducción, distancias...

Como he dicho, el tema es mucho más profundo y complejo, pero poniendo ejemplos muy simples:

Lo mismo con el discurso político, pueden identificarte como disidente y en ciertos modelos de Estado, enviado a reeducación.

⛔️CÁMARA EN VEHÍCULO: Parpadea usted demasiado, no está capacitado para seguir conduciendo, su vehículo se detendrá. No importa que parpadees por alergia.

Lo mismo con el accidente. Esa cámara que escrutina cada uno de tus movimientos y conversaciones para atribuirte la responsabilidad en un accidente, permanecerá impasible al estado de la vía evitando que la Administración tenga ningún tipo de responsabilidad.

⚠️Todo ello, conjugado, GPS, Balizas, cámaras, controles de chat y dinero digital, dará lugar en un futuro muy próximo a que se te impida viajar porque has excedido tu cupo de salidas de tu ciudad de 15 minutos, has excedido tu cupo de combustible, tu cupo de hoteles o de comidas en estrella Michelín o Burger King; porque el algoritmo te nota cansado, porque cree, según tu parpadeo y kilómetros recorridos en el último mes, que ya no eres apto para conducir más o porque las personas con las que vas a viajar o el lugar al que vas no se consideran "adecuados a los valores de la Unión".

Mientras las penas en la Unión a los criminales a los que se pretende perseguir (Pederastas, traficantes, terroristas...) son cada día más laxas, la vigilancia y persecución a la población es mayor y más estrecha y estricta, alcanzado niveles de sofisticación que ni la misma Gestapo o Stasi hubieran soñado.

No empezará así, no será el primer día, pero igual que hoy es una realidad no poder plantar en tu campo lo que quieras o que tu vaca paste en determinados lugares, aunque sean de tu propiedad, o que te prohíban entrar hasta tu casa con tu coche porque es viejo o que una empresa bloquee tus comunicaciones porque hay fútbol, este es el futuro negro que nos espera.

El documento de prioridades legislativas del partido expone que buscan iniciar la discusión del tema, sin que siquiera se conozca con claridad de qué trata la propuesta o si podría derivar en mecanismos de censura.

Incluso utilizan la palabra «control», y esto ocurre en un contexto en el que múltiples iniciativas del oficialismo han sido señaladas por aparentar estar orientadas a censurar y vigilar a la ciudadanía.

No se trata de una teoría conspirativa. Ya no existe un organismo autónomo encargado de vigilar la transparencia ni otras regulaciones técnicas. Desaparecieron al INAI, al IFT, entre otros.

Además, se han advertido los riesgos de la concentración de datos, mientras el gobierno insiste en construir bases masivas de información, como la Plataforma Única de Identidad (CURP Biométrica) o la credencialización generalizada de los sistemas de salud en México, todo ello sin claridad sobre quién puede acceder a esos datos y bajo qué mecanismos.

Y ahora las redes sociales se han convertido en un espacio incómodo para el oficialismo. Aquí mismo hemos visto una creciente tendencia crítica de quienes no comparten su visión, así como iniciativas como la Ley Serrano, en San Luis Potosí, sobre Inteligencia Artificial, que incluso ha derivado en la criminalización del ejercicio periodístico.

Es difícil no identificar un patrón en todo esto. Por eso resulta fundamental mantenerse muy atentos a lo que ocurra tanto con la iniciativa presidencial como con su discusión en el Congreso, donde ya sabemos que rara vez se le cambia una sola coma.

Hacemos un llamado enérgico a las empresas de telecomunicaciones en México a replicar de inmediato este modelo comercial. Users can generate AI images using public profiles by tagging accounts in their prompts

Instagram users can now have their public photos used to create AI images through Meta’s new Muse Image feature.

If you have a public Instagram account, your photos can be used by default unless you choose to opt out, meaning you have to turn the feature off yourself

With Muse Image, people can tag a public Instagram account in a prompt, and Meta AI can use that account’s public photos to generate new AI images.

If you don’t want your photos used this way, you can turn the feature off in Instagram → Settings → Sharing and reuse.

Meta says private accounts aren’t included, you won’t be notified if someone uses your public photos, and any AI images created before you opt out will stay available.
