@MalekAlmanaa @MikaNotFatima @kaabi_maha If people do not notice their ignorance, why would they go seek knowledge? To them, they know all they need to know, and going beyond that might be dangerous #bse18
@MalekAlmanaa @MikaNotFatima @kaabi_maha Then is there a way for them get out of their ignorance? In the cave allegory, even when they were told about the world outside the cave, the people denied it. In that case, is knowledge something people should seek themselves or be told by others? #bse18
@aya_domi @MikaNotFatima @AmnasDiary The BOP often make bad decisions because of lack of education. Regulating deceptive marketing may influence their purshcasing decisions in the short run, but there should be ways that influence them to make the right decisions in the long run (2). #bse18
@aya_domi @MikaNotFatima @AmnasDiary I agree with you, but I also believe that there should be other ways to solve this problem in the long run. It is important that the BOP understands why some products should be regulated. Like we mentioned in class, it isn’t just the government’s work. (1) #bse18
@MikaNotFatima @kaabi_maha I think there are different types of people in this case. For example, there are people with power who’d want to keep others in the dark. These people know ignorance is bliss. However, those who are being manipulated may not exactly know what they’re ignorant of #bse18
@Layal_nba I agree, & not only were they able to increase sales, they were also able to attract a big part of the market here in Qatar as women became more comfortable going to vodaphone #bse18
@Layal_nba But in many cases we are talking about big corporations that do minimal CSR. They’re still providing some benefit, but very little compared to what they’re capable of. Is that the same? Shouldn’t we ask them to do more? #bse18
@aya_domi@Shireen1114@PanceAli@MalekAlmanaa@SaiqalAl@AlbandariAlMana I agree with you, but there should be a way in which they can report things without worrying about being sent back or losing their job. And I believe that both the host country and the country of origin should be responsible for that #bse18
I think that stricter laws would help protect the migrant workers more effectively. However, I do believe that the government should work on making people more aware of these laws. #bse18
@haninn_el @MikaNotFatima @AmnasDiary I think an approach similar to J&J would help more, where they had successful campaigns to help their employees stop smoking. This could be the role of their governments (2) #bse18
@haninn_el @MikaNotFatima @AmnasDiary Even at higher prices though, I think it wouldn’t help much because they’re addicted to it. They will just continue buying it & it will harm them more (1) #bse18
@MikaNotFatima @AlbandariAlMana@Layal_nba Can embassies be considered as support? I believe that if workers can communicate with people from their own country they’d be more willing to trust them and speak up #bse18
@MikaNotFatima @Layal_nba@AlbandariAlMana I think that communication is vital to employee rights and that they know who to go to when they need to be protected. Rather than just lack of power, it could be that they don’t know how or where they could voice their problems #bse18
@MikaNotFatima @Layal_nba@AlbandariAlMana I would say that they should be more aware of the laws and regulations, but @Layal_nba said they’re already aware of it. Is it really due to the lack of power that they can’t really say anything? I think there are other reasons too. For example, communication #bse18
@AmnasDiary I also think that it depends on the scale of the project. For some startups, or even for new projects of an existing company, crowdfunding may not be enough. As seen in many cases, several sources of funding are needed, and hence banks are essential #bse18
@haninn_el@MirnaaMahmoud I agree, because as we said, Qataris are a small population. To ensure they have some opportunities, there has to be some sort of Qatarization. But that is not to say that they should be treated differently, because that could backfire and some Qataris would be offended #bse18
@IshaqHaj But at the same time, I think the processes is too complicated to say that everyone involved is responsible. I think that if a problem arises, there are people who will be more responsible than others (and in some cases, even blamed) #bse18
