// HOLOGRAPHIC DREAMS
Across the history of New Eden there are Keepers that become part of canon lore, with tales passed on through generations.

Each week we explore lore questions raised by the community, so that we can detail every corner of New Eden together.
Question: What is magic used forโฆ and at what cost?
A two-part question that helps us understand the centrality of magic within New Eden and the lengths that people go through to manipulate Kai energy.
All magic comes from attunement to Kai energy, concentrated through parts of the colour/light spectrum in order to achieve different effects (both in the material realm and beyond).
Distinct from the natural attunement of Keepers, some citizens have learned to work with trace amounts of Kai through years of dedicated practice. Low levels of Kai attunement has thus become increasingly common over the generations, so there are regular examples of citizens that learn how to manipulate the energy for various means.
These mostly result in relatively minor effects such as healing, clairvoyance and the manifestation of basic material forms. These kind of abilities are regular enough to have become part of everyday life throughout the New Eden Safe Zone.
Keepers born with natural attunement, and particularly those who train to deepen their understanding of Kai, can use magic for a much wider range of outcomes.
This covers everything from destructive abilities to localised distortions of space and time, even the ability to enter into realms beyond the material. All of this channelled through the caster themselves, who can be acting with either honourable or sinister intent.
Using magic requires both a great deal of concentration as well as opening the mind and body to the flows of Kai energy around us. This can be exhausting, particularly for those seeking to have a stronger impact, and so the cost of magic is mostly seen in terms of how much an individual can commit themselves to castingโฆ
This can extend even to the point of falling unconscious, or perhaps losing grip with reality for a period of time. In more extreme cases, wielding such energies can have dangerous and unpredictable effects when not properly controlled.
In addition to deep concentration and the need for proper training, there are certain effects (particularly those which enter into the astral realms, or even beyond) which require spiritual objects of focus and/or offerings used in the process of casting a particular spell. These act as catalysts that can enhance the Kai attunement of an individual and help direct it towards specific goals. The most potent of these are known as Relics and Vessels, which are carefully protected by the Havens that act as custodians of such powerful items.
Walking through the streets of Prisma City, Animus, or even in the less populated meadows outside Solis and the swamps surrounding Altona, one is likely to come across various magical abilities cast towards specific goals. These can often be seen as relatively mundane actions to assist with daily tasks, or glamours cast to impress and entertain.
Although this might be the case and come with a sense of normality, there is always a deeper wonder when magic is invoked. People understand that something miraculous is occurring, even if it has been more than a century since these effects began to be seen more openly.
In the end, the depths of concentration required, and the components that might be needed to attract a particular result, are really just the beginning of what magic really costs.
The true cost of magic comes from how it changes us and redirects our collective efforts. How it opens us up to achieve things previously thought outside the reach of our physical being.
Once opened, these channels require us to have the wisdom to use them in harmony with the world around us. We must remember our role and nurture the sanctuary provided to us.
Otherwise, we will quickly learn of the tragedy that our own hubris brings when we forget.

We started building KPR almost 4 years ago (1 in stealth, 3 in public). When we finally launched in 2022, it was straight into the FTX collapse. Back then people called us incompetent and said we'll never survive.
Most projects that launched in 2022 didn't.
Most went bankrupt, disappeared or simply gave up.
We didn't. We stayed. We built. We adapted.
Today, KPR isn't just alive, it's stronger than ever. We still have 2+ years of runway, and an upcoming flagship release: New Eden Dreams.
None of this happened by chance. It came from sacrifice. Many of us went over a year without taking a salary to keep this dream moving forward. @FuturesightE grinded for almost a year to bring the Keycard Mint to life. His quiet consistency and dedication is the energy that Web3 needs.
We chose the longer and harder road, because we believed in KPR.
KPR has never been about about hype or shortcuts, but rather endurance, conviction, and proof through execution.
What you're betting on with KPR isn't speculation.
You're betting on builders who have proven they'll outlast market cycles.
Youโre betting on a team that simply refuses to quit.
We're never left. We're still building. And we're just getting started.
Keep. Protect. Reimagine.
