@GazTheJourno I wonder how often the Driver had worked this diagram. The normal course of events would be the Nottingham train would overtake and be gone, Corby train leaves Bedford on Yellows but as soon as it's across the junction to the fast line wide open. Habit is cruel.

@ConfessionsPete Was the pilot shown? I've a vague memory of seeing Bob Grant in a milkman based sitcom. ISTR one of the jokes was an explosion as Bob drives a milk float away from the depot still attached to its charging cable.
