In lecture today we learned about the importance of marketing on social media. I’d say that Instagram, tiktok and twitter are some of the more effective platforms to market on as they are some of the most used. Anyone got a platform they think I should add? #UWJ201 #319
@Anders0nMattUW I think this is a pretty interesting take, I’ve never thought about it but it certainly could work, however I feel like the thought of paying for social media wouldn’t sit well with most people, and also ads make more money for social media corporations. #319 #UWJ201
@AnnabelBridges7 If I’m being honest, I don’t think I’ve ever clicked on an ad I’ve seen on social media and buying a product off it, however that doesn’t mean the ads don’t catch my eye. Ads on social media are certainly unique to different people based on their interests. #319 #UWJ201
In the article for Monday titled “A brand new game” it mentions how BMW strategically placed car ads to profiles of who would buy expensive cars. This makes me wonder, can anyone think of any ads that you may get and think everyone gets, but others really don’t get? #319 #UWJ201
@kahn_maggie I would definitely say this could be considered a form of manipulation. Manipulation is basically influencing something in a clever way. In this case the ad influenced its viewers in an emotional way, which is why I’d consider it manipulation. #UWJ201 #319
@KaitlynRock2 I think I see peripheral ads more often, but it just depends on the product and the media. When i see a car ad, it uses the central route. But when I see ads on Instagram or other social media, it tends to be the peripheral route. #UWJ201 #319
I found the two persuasion routes (central and peripheral) in the Forbes reading to be very interesting. What I wonder is, which route is most effective overall, or are they equal depending on the consumer?? #319 #UWJ201
@CaseyAugust2 I would say so. Media like Facebook or Instagram or tik tok are very opinionated and people could be leaving key points out. So it’s important for users to fact check and make sure their getting all sides of the story at hand. #319 #UWJ201
@_JaylaNimo And most people nowadays consume their media on their phone which would explain the dominance of mobile friendly media like Snapchat, tiktok and Instagram 2/2. #319 #UWJ201
@_JaylaNimo The growth of influencers does have something to do with the increase use of Instagram and tiktok, however I also believe the two are more user and visual friendly than Facebook. Media like snapchat and tiktok are also more mobile friendly, 1/2 #319 #UWJ201
The Valenzuela and Rojas reading for Monday says that informing the public is journalism’s core function in societies today. However, it mentions that there’s “News Deserts” nowadays where entire locations aren’t covered by news. What causes these news deserts? #319 #UWJ201
@smcrane8 In order to see past the focus of journalism of affirmation people must get their news from more than just one corporation. By doing such they will be able to get more information on a topic rather than just one side of a story from one source #UWJ201 #319
@AlisonStecker I think although it may not be fully practical, people must fact check all of their information. It’s just a reality that nowadays corporations may leave key information out of articles, so it’s now up to the consumer to be skeptical and ask what’s really going on. #UWJ201 #319
correctly and effectively to represent public opinion? And if so how accurate are journalists usually when attempting to illustrate the public’s opinion on a topic? 2/2 #UWJ201 #319
In the McGregor article it talks about how journalists uses social media to represent public opinion. One large example of this is using polls to represent the public opinion of the masses. Do journalists tend to successfully use social media 1/2 #UWJ201 #319
@amandamilleruw Hey Amanda, I think that the party that holds office has an effect on such statistics. Over the past 4 years I’ve seen lots more “fake news” claims than ever, even from the president, which can lead to more distrust and bias seen in mainstream sources in the public. #UWJ201 #319
@kahn_maggie Hey Maggie, I think that while an explanation may seem as if it gets in the way of info, it could be valuable to a story. Letting the readers know not only what the story is but also why it’s even a story let’s the readers know they aren’t reading it for no reason. #UWJ201 #319
After reading this article, do you agree with the steps they provide for news networks to build trust with their viewers, would you add anything? #319 #UWJ201 2/2
One of the readings for today went over 4 simple steps to help news networks build trust with their audience. The strongest step, I believe, was when the network explains why a story was reported. It’s good to give the viewers some context about the report. #UWJ201 #319 1/2
@AffinitoRenee I definitely think that seeing actual video of the violence really provoked and influenced viewers like us and the public because in most cases video is more powerful than images. It really let us see the cruel treatment that people were experiencing... 1/2 #319 #UWJ201
