Here’s a really special piece I wrote for @TalkDeathDaily on how the #sikh#akhandpaath ceremony offers relief to those grieving the death of a loved one. I trace its history and share a personal story about losing my grandmother.

Tokitae, also known as Lolita or Sk’aliCh’elh-tenaut, the last surviving southern resident killer whale in captivity, died in Florida on Friday afternoon, the Miami Seaquarium said.
With preparations in order to release the whale back into the ocean after 53 years in captivity, the idea of death care for all animals comes back into mind. For humans, having your final days be in your own home can provide great support and relief.

The story of Orpheus and Eurydice is one of my favorites, purely because of the character of Death herself. Shortly after Orpheus, a lyricist and poet, falls in love with Eurydice she dies from a snake bite. In an attempt to get her back, he travels to the underworld.
In the 1950 movie Orpheus, he makes this travel possible through the temporal portals within the reflection of mirrors. An obsession with the character and concept of Death draws him in, making it harder to return to the living.
With trends going around like NPC TikTok lives and AI filters, it’s worth considering how AI will play a role in the future of death care. https://t.co/XS9PhU6Jo9
