@rugbyontnt Great defence. But to play 17 phases in-front of the posts and not go for the drop goal or to go wide is criminal. You can see the 10 is calling for the ball. 9 just let the forwards plod on
Sporting results often come down to the finest of margins!
It's easy to question when an option/play does NOT end with a successful outcome/result.
HOWEVER, there is absolutely NO guarantee that a different option/play would have resulted in a more successful outcome!
@RugbyBath Exactly. I always compare how I’d feel if we failed trying “the other thing”. Clearly success is better than failure, but you shouldn’t judge a strategy choice purely on how it worked out.
@dvernalls@RuckinRugby He wasn’t positioned for a drop goal. At one point, there were 14 Exeter players in that frame to the left of Santi. He shouted because he wanted to exploit the multi-player overlap to the right.
@stephenjones9 He was screaming for the ball, with a massive overlap out to the right. No DG needed. 13 Exeter players in this picture. But Bath doesn’t seem to trust the backs.
@Leicester4life@wotelseisthere@dvernalls There was huge overlap out to the right. No more than three simple passes and it would have been a try on the wing. Not for the 1st time, Bath didn’t trust the backs.
For all those having a go at Santi Carreras for not wanting the ball, what’s he doing here if he’s shying away? He was waving his arms and screaming for the ball. The forwards just ignored him #BATvsEXE#bathrugby#premrugby
@dvernalls@RuckinRugby Seen it all season. A real unwillingness to run it through the hands/cross field kick, even when having penalty advantage. Did it once in the semi, and the result: try.
@RuckinRugby Blaming Carreras is pointless. That loss was a culmination of poor strategy since Christmas (at least). If you never use your backs, you're not going to do so at a moment of pressure. Must be a bunch of demoralised backs in our squad that feel they aren't trusted.
for those of us that have watched a lot of this team this year… this was coming - we doubled down on the pick and go game and not trusting the backs close to the line. Santi getting slammed for not going for the drop, but it was a 5 on 1 through the hands but we didn’t back it.
