125 years ago! today, President McKinley was shot by anarchist Leon Czolgosz inside the Temple of Music at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, NY. Here is a brief pictorial history of the event and location. In order of the photos: 1) The last photo of McKinley on his way into the Temple of Music minutes before he was shot; 2) the interior of the Temple of Music, the X marking the spot where he was shot; 3) a bustling crowd outside the Temple of Music (note that every heard is covered by a hat of some sort and all men and women are well dressed ); 4) the illustration is fairly accurate, but increase the distance of Czolgosz to McKinley to a few feet rather than inches. Eight days later, our 25th President would exit the national stage, losing his life to gangrene. The public in attendance-outside and inside waiting to shake his hand-had no idea the hell that was soon to unfold. At this time, although there were anarchist factions (the exact number is unknown) determined to alter the course of national history, the notion that someone would seek to harm or kill the well-beloved McKinley was beyond the pale to millions. Czolgosz acted alone, but he was inspired to dispatch McKinley, driven by the rabble rousing speeches of famed anarchist Emma Goldman. From 1865 to 1901, a span of 36 years, three presidents were shot, ushering their vice-presidents into office.

James K. Polk, the 11th President of the United States, took a grand total of 42 days off in his entire four years in office. Out of roughly 1,460 days, he spent all but 42 of them at his desk. He may be the biggest workaholic ever to hold the job. He rose before dawn, worked deep into the night, personally read nearly every document that crossed his path, and treated relaxing like a personal enemy.
His wife Sarah ran the White House to match. A devout woman, she banned dancing, banned card games, and banned hard liquor in the building. No parties, no music, no fun, just work. When she once begged him to put his papers down and get some rest, he responded by handing her a stack of documents to read on his behalf. Even his idea of delegating was still more work.
What makes it wild is how effective all that grinding actually was. Polk walked into office as a "dark horse," a candidate almost nobody expected to win, and a protégé of Andrew Jackson nicknamed "Young Hickory." He then laid out four enormous goals for his single term: lower the tariff, restore an independent treasury, settle the Oregon border dispute with Britain, and acquire California from Mexico. He accomplished all four. He added more than 800,000 square miles to the country and stretched the United States all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Few Presidents have ever gotten that much done, and almost none did it in one term.
Then, true to his word, he kept his promise not to run again and walked away completely drained. And here is the almost dark ending. Just three months after leaving office, worn down to nothing, he caught cholera and died at 53, one of the shortest post-presidency lives in history. Many historians believe he quite literally worked himself into an early grave, that four years of nonstop labor left his body too weak to fight the illness off.
So the real James K. Polk: 42 days off in four years, banned fun in his own house, quietly reshaped the entire map of the country, checked off every goal he set, and then dropped dead months later from sheer exhaustion.
That's a President.
There is a decent chance the word "booze" exists because of William Henry Harrison, America's 9th President. During his 1840 campaign, a distiller named E.C. Booz sold whiskey in log-cabin-shaped bottles to promote him. People started calling the liquor "Booz," and the name stuck to cheap alcohol ever since.
Here's the con. Harrison's whole image was "humble frontier farmer who lives in a log cabin and drinks hard cider." His campaign leaned all the way into it. In reality he was born on a wealthy Virginia plantation, was the son of a man who signed the Declaration of Independence, and his "log cabin" was actually a 16-room mansion built around an old cabin. It was one of the first times in US history a candidate got packaged and sold like a product, and the fake image won.
When he wasn't farming at North Bend, Ohio, he had a genuinely nerdy hobby: he dug around the ruins of an abandoned Shawnee village near his land, studied the artifacts, and actually published a written article about what he found. A President moonlighting as an amateur archaeologist.
And then the tragic punchline. On a freezing, snowy inauguration day he refused to wear a coat or hat and delivered the longest inaugural speech in American history, nearly two hours and over 8,000 words. He caught pneumonia and died 31 days later, giving him the shortest presidency ever.
So the real William Henry Harrison: a rich aristocrat who won by cosplaying as a poor cider-drinking farmer, dug up ancient artifacts for fun, may have gifted us the word "booze," and then talked himself to death in the cold in a single month.
That's a President.
The irony of Republicans controlling all branches of government while
bankrupting the country, starting a war, sending money to fraudulent programs, violating the Constitution, giving corporations immunity...
but arguing that the biggest problem we have is “stolen elections.”

A reminder that the first (and IMHO greatest) Republican president opposed the nativist sentiment of the "know nothing" American Party in the 1850s. Blacks,Irish, German &Catholics were among that era's victims. The more things change...
.@RepRobertGarcia: "We are now asking and demanding that President Trump officially come in and testify in front of the Oversight Committee. He appears in the Epstein Files next to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell almost more than anybody else."
🚨NEW: James Carville delivers *UNHINGED* "personal message" to Trump🚨
"You sit still, you son of a b*tch ... you fat sorry sack of sh*t! ... You are the most unpopular president at this point in your term that we've ever had. They don't like you, the way you smell, the way you look, your fat stomach, your stupid comb-over!"
"There are no silent people out there for you. The only thing you got is a silent but deadly fart! It's about all you're good for."
"So, I wish you good health. I hope that you're cognizant ... because I want you to know that you're experiencing the misery that you're going through right now, the public humiliation that is happening to you."

🚨 BREAKING: Not a single Republican showed up for Les Wexner’s deposition today — the billionaire longtime Epstein associate whose name appears repeatedly in the files.
Zero. Oversight. From the GOP.
Wexner also says the FBI and DOJ have never contacted him.
After years of “release the files” rhetoric, they won’t even show up to question one of Epstein’s closest financial backers.
More evidence that @AGPamBondi lied under oath. She stated in Judiciary hearing: “There is no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime.”
Epstein documents in this article show the FBI interviewed a victim who credibly accused Trump of sexual assault.
Bondi must resign.
