The Reggia di Caserta. 🇮🇹
In Italian, "reggia" means royal palace. And this one, built starting in 1752 for the Bourbon kings of Naples, is the largest royal residence in the world by volume. 1,200 rooms. 1,742 windows.
The gardens stretch for 3 kilometers, with fountains, sculptures, and a canal that looks like Versailles, but bigger.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Yet most travelers walk right past it.
If you're heading to Naples, take the train 30 minutes north. You won't believe what you'll see. 👑
Festa della Repubblica on June 2 commemorates the 80th anniversary of the 1946 referendum when Italians were called to the polls to decide on the new form of government after World War II and the fall of Fascism: https://t.co/S9fvd7fV3a
