On February 10, 2018 a Kenyan musician was gang-raped at an apartment in Nairobi after a birthday outing, where she was given a drink and lost consciousness.

The musician, Wendy Kemunto was raped by two rugby players, Frank Wanyama and Alex Olaba.

Wendy was assaulted all night after being lured to an apartment during her birthday celebrations.

The assault resulted in an unplanned pregnancy and a subsequent miscarriage. The court found the two men guilty and sentenced them to 15 years each in prison in August 2019.

In June 2020, the High Court quashed the sentences and ordered a fresh re-trial at the lower courts due to a procedural mishap involving an unsworn witness, allowing them out on a KSh 300k cash bail.

In 2021, Alex Olaba was arrested for trying to hire an undercover detective to eliminate a key prosecution witness. He was later sentenced to 6 years in prison for conspiracy to defeat justice.

The Milimani Law Courts scheduled the gang rape re-trial to begin on February 9, 2026.
