@AskTSA I'm not sure that "theft" is certain. It was confiscated due to hazardous substance. The agent had no standing according to FAA policy. Can I file a claim to get compensation to replace it? It was probably just sloppy work. It is easy enough to determine if a lighter has fuel!

@TSA Last night, TSA confiscated (stole) my husband's Christmas gift. It was a gorgeous, handmade, engraved with The Piano Man set that included the engraved lighter (that was EMPTY) in a gift box. I am crushed. https://t.co/fu1JXBc1zf says empty lighters are allowed!

I understand we have no recourse; TSA agents are free to take whatever they wish to protect the public. This is a disgusting policy. This was my main gift to my husband, and now it's gone. Shame. On. You.

multiple empty lighters could cause delays at security screening checkpoints. The FAA recommends that passengers pack empty lighters in checked baggage accompanied by a note explaining that they contain no fuel. Their rules should apply to TSA agents!
