Sad news from the world of 80s horror: Jonathan Tiersten, best known as Ricky Thomas from the cult classic Sleepaway Camp, has passed away at the age of 60. 🕯️

Born August 11, 1965, Tiersten delivered one of the most memorable performances in slasher history as Angela’s hot-headed, protective cousin Ricky in the 1983 Robert Hiltzik film. His intense “You’re all gonna die!” energy and that unforgettable summer camp chaos helped make Sleepaway Camp a twisted, quotable favorite that still shocks and entertains fans decades later.

He reprised the role over 25 years later in the 2008 sequel Return to Sleepaway Camp, showing the character had lost none of his fire. Beyond the original franchise, Tiersten stayed active in indie horror with roles in films like The Perfect House (where he earned acclaim and awards) and continued creating as a musician with bands and solo projects.

Tributes are pouring in from the horror community, remembering him as a kind, passionate, and talented soul who loved connecting with fans. His cousin and others close to him have shared heartfelt messages about his warmth and creativity.
