@PeterLawrence18 I think the signs of an old track in previous late Autumn and Winter periods have been there for awhile when we get rain. We experienced it at Moonee Valley for the last 10 years.
@davepband Interesting even in this thread after they've raced we still have 3 different ratings, showing its not an exact science. The tools used are just a guide, I know from experience with the going stick when a tracks wet you sometimes need to downgrade it by 1 or 2 ratings.
@betsy_com_au Age of the track is definitely something that the whole industry needs to factor into programing. When the best time to topmaker track and lay new sod as this is the only way to improve infiltration rate significantly. 10 years is probably the perfect timing.
@Racing_Previews When a track is rebuilt, the infiltration rate is at its highest and we see tracks drain extremely well regardless of rain amounts, as they get older the infiltration rate slowly drops and it takes less rainfall or irrigation to wet up and take longer to dry out.
@Racing_Previews We seen this at Moonee Valley from year 12 onwards, late Autumn and Winter became very difficult, then spring/ summer would be fine. You just can't improve the infiltration rate significantly without taking the top off the track. Each year less amounts of rainfall cause problems.
@grantmac12 The amount of Afl players that aren't aligned to the target is astounding. Keep an eye on how many run to the right or left of the target and miss.
@Racing_Previews Winx, George Main, Turnball, Cox Plate,Champions mile/Stakes. Wishful thinking but wish they'd have one more crack at 2000m with a 2000m lead up run.
@Racing_Previews In fairness she didn't really have a proper 2000m preparation, would be interesting to see her do that in the spring with a run in the Turnball first. Doubt will see it though
