The Alberta NDP membership is now 85,144 members!
This is amazing. Congratulations to all fellow leadership campaigns and welcome to tens of thousands of new members! 🧡
I am also so thrilled to tell you that Calgary-Mountain View, my riding, now has more than 3,500 members — the largest Alberta NDP membership in the province.

I believe that everyone should respect the deals they’ve made and the rights of others. It’s about basic fairness.
I am deeply disturbed by the letter from former Mayor Nenshi that attempts to squirm out of a deal that he made with city workers. It also tries to change the rules around when the city can privatize a service.
When the city needed to find money the first place they went looking was the pockets of workers — that’s not the world we should be building and that’s not the right message to Albertans about who we are as a party.
The next Premier of this province will be responsible for bargaining with hundreds of thousands of workers, including nurses and teachers. These professionals deserve to feel like they are negotiating with someone who respects their rights and will keep their word.

@Beatsie1@KathleenGanley The "only Nenshi can beat Smith" narrative I think is wrong.
I think Ganley and Nenshi can both beat Smith. I think Ganley has more meat and capability to run the Province. Nenshi would be fine. They ALL would be fine.
But it's the "who can beat Smith" thing -- Ganley can too.
Good morning, friends!

No child should have to learn on an empty stomach.
Today, I committed to funding and implementing a universal school nutrition program within a four-year government term.
My campaign is focused on building an economy that works for people and education is a cornerstone of that plan. The kids learning in our schools today could go on to cure a form of cancer or make real progress combating climate change — but not if we deprive them of their right to an education. Part of that is ensuring they’re fed and ready to learn.
Research conducted by the University of Toronto, using Statistics Canada data, revealed a disturbing reality: almost one-in-four Alberta households suffer from food insecurity. Studies show that a supply of good food significantly improves high school grades and college attendance, while also revealing that food security affects students differently based on their race.
The Manitoba NDP Government announced intentions in January to move to a universal school nutrition program over time. Last year, the B.C. NDP Government invested $214-million over three years to expand school nutrition programs, marking the largest investment of its kind in Canadian history.
Canada is the only G7 country that doesn’t have a national school food program or standards, according to the Breakfast Club of Canada. This week, the federal government announced an investment towards a national school lunch program over the next five years — my program program would work in lockstep with any federal funds to ensure all students are fed.
We know this works in other countries. School nutrition programs are part of the curriculum, teaching kids manners, nutrition, food safety and more. We also know that other provinces to our west and east are moving aggressively towards universal school nutrition programs.
Our program program will feed kids, it will give them access to education and that saves money in the long run. The skills that kids learn today will help us build a diversified economy, cut our healthcare costs and so much more.

I am also concerned Nenshi could be divisive within the voters, party, and caucus, but this statement by @sarahbyyc hit me: “The longer he waits to officially declare his intentions, the more it appears as if he expects a coronation rather than a contest.” https://t.co/CDs9SedNlS
Our team just keeps on growing right across Alberta!
Raj Jessel worked so hard as our candidate in Chestermere-Strathmore ahead of the 2023 election and he will help inform our strategy to grow in areas of the province where the Alberta NDP hasn't done as well in the past.
I want to thank Raj so much for joining our team. You too can get involved at https://t.co/TG5dNT5yom

"Kathleen Ganley is focused on working people and ensuring that they get the respect and wages they deserve.
She is focused on the economy and making sure it works for people like me. I am proud to endorse her for leader of the Alberta NDP. I believe she will break new ground for us in communities, like Chestermere and Strathmore.
I believe unions will have a major role to play in our province’s future and appreciate Kathleen’s background as a labour lawyer and her willingness to engage with working people.
I see a bright future ahead for the Alberta NDP and Kathleen Ganley is clearly the best choice for leader. I look forward to her being elected premier in 2027 and I’m proud to support her."
— Raj Jessel, former Alberta NDP Chestermere-Strathmore candidate

Today’s provincial budget is not about people.
There is nothing to help families falling farther and farther behind. There’s nothing to help our kids get a good education. There’s nothing to fix the healthcare crisis. In fact, the budget makes it more expensive to buy a home — in a housing crisis.
Danielle Smith broke her promise to cut taxes. She broke her promise to fix healthcare.
You don’t matter to the UCP. But you matter to me.
We are putting forward bold ideas every day. We’re going to cut your costs and hike your wages. We’re going to ensure you’re not hit with a bill for an orphan well mess you didn’t make.
We’re going to give you a voice in our party and the future of our province.
I’m building a winning team and it gets bigger every day. Come join us — bring your ideas, your energy, your dreams — we will build a province and an economy that works for us all.

Costs are up and wages haven’t kept pace. People are struggling to afford the basics and put away a little for tomorrow. The economy isn’t working for most people.
It's time for a change.
That's why I'm proposing a new tax relief plan — a plan to help make things a little easier for people. We will increase the basic personal exemption to $26,000. So, anyone earning less than $26,000 a year would no longer pay provincial income tax.
This change would mean an additional 150,000 Albertans living in poverty won’t pay provincial income tax, and over 2.5 million more Albertans would save money.
This policy is about giving you some much-needed breathing room.
It's about ensuring that our economy works for you, not against you.
