@4Bassam Normalising the illegal.
@wapo seems to have missed the recent ICJ's advisory opinion declaring Israel's presence in the oPt unlawful, to be dismantled henceforth, with reparations to be made to the Palestinians.
The fact that a senior civil servant who specialised in assessing arms exports to Israel has ended his 18-year career because he thinks the Foreign Office "may be complicit in war crimes", and not a single national outlet has reported it, is frightening. We have a captive media.
This is an astonishing resignation letter from Mark Smith of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
We wait with bated breath for this extremely serious matter to be covered by all of the mainstream media & for government ministers to be rigorously questioned.
She's been a beacon of moral clarity and courage this last year.
She's been viciously attacked for standing against Israel's genocide.
But history will vindicate @FranceskAlbs - and damn those who have smeared her.

This non Brit came to the UK and raped a 12 year old British girl multiple times, didn't serve his sentence, and the UK media is rehabilitating him because he's a Blonde Athlete?
Pope Francis: "I continue to receive very serious and painful news from Gaza. Unarmed civilians are subjected to bombings and shootings. A mother and her daughter were killed by Israeli snipers while going to the restroom. It is terrorism."
After 10 catastrophic months, the leaders of three western States - all permanent members of the #UNSC -, write a 21 lines statement on the Middle East and not a single word about the MILLIONS scarred by the ongoing atrocities and forcibly displaced over and over. Not a single word about the dozen thousand killed, maimed, tortured, orphaned. Not a single word about the 16,000 children exterminated amid the full-scale destruction of the ghetto they had lived in. Not a single word about the need to ensure justice and respect for int'l law to build sustainable peace.
Hard to think of a more infelicituous choice of words, written and omitted.
.@ROK_Mission Amb Hwang: "This was #Israel's 8th bombing of a school sheltering civilians so far in August alone. We are all aware that civilian infrastructure should not be targeted, this is all the moreso when those schools are being used as shelters for desperate civilians who have been displaced multiple times amid ongoing hunger, insecurity, and disease. Israel argues that these attacks on Al Tabi'een school were carried out using precise munitions to eliminate #Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad members embedded in the compound but, regardless of this argument, a fact is a fact: Yet another school where hundreds of civilians were sheltering was intentionally targeted. Israel claims that 31 terrorists were eliminated but in this indescriminate airstrike, no distinction was made between militants and civilians including women and children."
Israel also possesses large stocks of chemical weapons and is one of only five countries in the world to refuse to sign up to the International Chemical Weapons Convention.
Extraordinary text by Israeli historian Omer Bartov, a former IDF soldier who's now the world's leading scholar on genocide and the Holocaust: https://t.co/BCjj3HNeUC
He directly compares the ideology in today's Israel to that of Nazi Germany, says Israel is committing genocide and that it might be headed towards "self-annihilation".
Some extracts:
"[Israel has adopted a] logic of endless violence, a logic that allows one to destroy entire populations and to feel totally justified in doing so. It is a logic of victimhood – we must kill them before they kill us, as they did before – and nothing empowers violence more than a righteous sense of victimhood. Look at what happened to us in 1918, German soldiers said in 1942, recalling the propagandistic “stab-in-the-back” myth, which attributed Germany’s catastrophic defeat in the first world war to Jewish and communist treason. Look at what happened to us in the Holocaust, when we trusted that others would come to our rescue, IDF troops say in 2024, thereby giving themselves licence for indiscriminate destruction based on a false analogy between Hamas and the Nazis...
I told [some Zionist students] the story of how, in 1930, the German student union was democratically taken over by the Nazis. The students of that time felt betrayed by the loss of the first world war, the loss of opportunity because of the economic crisis, and the loss of land and prestige in the wake of the humiliating peace treaty of Versailles. They wanted to make Germany great again, and Hitler seemed able to fulfil that promise. Germany’s internal enemies were put away, its economy flourished, other nations feared it again, and then it went to war, conquered Europe and murdered millions of people. Finally, the country was utterly destroyed. I wondered aloud whether perhaps the few German students who survived those 15 years regretted their decision in 1930 to support nazism. But I do not think the young men and women at BGU understood the implications of what I had told them...
By the time I travelled to Israel, I had become convinced that at least since the attack by the IDF on Rafah on 6 May 2024, it was no longer possible to deny that Israel was engaged in systematic war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocidal actions. It was not just that this attack against the last concentration of Gazans – most of them displaced already several times by the IDF, which now once again pushed them to a so-called safe zone – demonstrated a total disregard of any humanitarian standards. It also clearly indicated that the ultimate goal of this entire undertaking from the very beginning had been to make the entire Gaza Strip uninhabitable, and to debilitate its population to such a degree that it would either die out or seek all possible options to flee the territory. In other words, the rhetoric spouted by Israeli leaders since 7 October was now being translated into reality – namely, as the 1948 UN Genocide Convention puts it, that Israel was acting “with intent to destroy, in whole or in part”, the Palestinian population in Gaza, “as such, by killing, causing serious harm, or inflicting conditions of life meant to bring about the group’s destruction”."
I was rooting for you @KamalaHQ We were all rooting for you, but this ain’t it. They’re raping detainees, filming it, and debating the acceptability of rape on the news. Not to mention the largest cohort of pediatric amputees, and the starvation, and the death. Do better, Kamala.
Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece of Renaissance art, and after insulting Jesus Christ at the Paris Olympics, Iranian artist Mohammad Ali Sanobari created "The Last Supper" with the oppressed children of Gaza.
#Nagasaki mayor Shiro Suzuki defended today his decision to invite Palestine instead of Israel to the peace ceremony.
The threats from U.S. and its vassals to boycott the annual event to commemorate the hibakusha could not work on the mayor, whose parents were a-bomb survivors.
Over 6 hours since a CCTV footage of Israeli soldiers raping a Palestinian in detention emerged, & still not a single major western media news has covered it.
