We need to embrace a little chaos and uncertainty in cities. I don't mean disorder. I mean we need to stop the insane restrictions on commerce and socializing that leaves cities boring and listless. More food stands and trucks. Less restrictions in drinking in parks.
So-called "inclusionary zoning" is a tax on new less-expensive homes that lets urban elected Democrats NIMBY new housing on behalf of their homeowner constituents while posing as friends of the poor. The Supreme Court should throw it out as an unconstitutional taking.
@jasonc_nc@constans As someone who worked in a gourmet deli for two years....the meat to bread ratio is far more important than the size and European sandwiches have a good balance. A lot of sandwich shops in the US use way too much meat
More outdoor dining. Mixing commerce and public parks. More pedestrian only streets. We need random encounters and people watching. Forcing everyone inside homes and businesses is bad
@JulieChangRE I blame the woo woo pop psychology around personality types that is so pervasive in the HR space. There's this false belief that you can eliminate bad hires and the need for training through their psuedo scientific methods and it's a massive waste lf time and money
Measure A going down in San Diego is proof that you aren't going to regulate your way into affordability and you aren't going to increase taxes to solve a budget crisis. The only way out is growth.

@AdamasNemesis They can always sell their valuable asset and downsize. Or do you think we should socialize everyone's housing so that everyone can have a 4 bedroom 2 ba home regardless of their housing needs?
This is actually a good point...a lot of seniors on fixed income could just rent out their spare rooms if they are struggling financially. We don't need to eliminate taxes. Nobody has any problem telling young people to get roommates. Old people can have roommates, too.
