Ok kids, today we learn about one more famous Sukta. It also called "The Hymn of the Creation". The name is Purusha Sukta. It is also the Sukta that lends credence and divinity to the Hindoo caste system. Alright, so let's go.

The ancient Vedics used to perform animal sacrifices. The parts of the sacrificed animal then used to be divided among the various priests - the head used to go to one, the tongue used to go to one, the limbs used to go to one etc. But ever wondered from where this practice came?

It came from the first sacrifice of the universe - that of a cosmological entity known as Purusha. The Purusha is described as having a thousand heads, a thousand eyes, a thousand feet. The The Purusha alone is whatever has been and whatever is to be. He is not to be confused with Brahman - a later interpolation.

पुरुष एवेदं सर्वं यद्भूतं यच्च भव्यम्

But who were the sacrificers? The gods themselves!

यत्पुरु॑षेण ह॒विषा॑ दे॒वा य॒ज्ञमत॑न्वत । व॒स॒न्तो अ॑स्यासी॒दाज्यं॑ ग्री॒ष्म इ॒ध्मः श॒रद्ध॒विः ॥

When they finished sacrificing Purusha, his various parts were lying and from them out came the three Vedas, the cattle, the horses etc. Most importantly, along with it came the four social classes of the Hindoos. The mouth of the Purusha became the Brahmana, his arms became the Kshatriya, his thighs became the Vaishyas and his feet became the Shudras.

यत्पुरु॑षं॒ व्यद॑धुः कति॒धा व्य॑कल्पयन् । मुखं॒ किम॑स्य॒ कौ बा॒हू का ऊ॒रू पादा॑ उच्येते ॥
ब्रा॒ह्म॒णो॑ऽस्य॒ मुख॑मासीद्बा॒हू रा॑ज॒न्य॑: कृ॒तः । ऊ॒रू तद॑स्य॒ यद्वैश्य॑: प॒द्भ्यां शू॒द्रो अ॑जायत ॥

So as you can see the world started with a sacrifice of Purusha and that's why sacrifices are very important in the Vedas. We'll study more on these later but tomorrow we shall skip to some other important lectures.

If you are having a difficulty in picturing the Purusha, you can instead imagine my face. There is no harm in it, for I am the divine Paramatma.

IIT बॉम्बे प्रकरण: विद्यार्थ्याच्या मृत्यूमुळे वादात सापडलेल्या प्रोफेसर दूल्लांच्या भूतकाळाबद्दल धक्कादायक खुलासे; विद्यार्थ्यांनी सगळंच सांगून टाकलं

18 सप्टेंबर रोजी मुंबई आयआयटी कॅम्पसमध्ये झालेल्या एका घटनेमुळे नवीन वादाला तोंड फुटलेलं असतानाच आता या प्रकरणामुळे वादात सापडलेल्या प्राध्यापकासंदर्भात विद्यार्थ्यांनी धक्कादायक माहिती दिली आहे.
आयआयटी मुंबईमधील दुसऱ्या वर्षाचा विद्यार्थी असलेल्या साहिल वाकोडेच्या मृत्यू प्रकरणामुळे चर्चेत आलेले याच संस्थेतील प्राध्यापक सूर्यनारायण दूल्ला यांच्याकडून विद्यार्थ्यांवर अन्यायकारक कारवाई सातत्याने केली जात होती, असा आरोप येथील काही विद्यार्थांनी केला आहे. यापूर्वी दूल्ला यांनी क्षुल्लक कारणांवरून आणि नियमबाह्य पद्धतीने अनेक विद्यार्थ्यांचे निलंबन केले होते, असा आरोप आता विद्यार्थ्यांनी केला आहे. दूल्ला यांच्याकडून करण्यात आलेल्या कारवाईचा पाढा आता विद्यार्थ्यांकडून वाचला जात आहे.
मीडियाशी बोलला म्हणून कारवाई
आयआयटी मुंबई प्रशासनाने यापूर्वी माध्यमांना प्रतिक्रिया दिली म्हणून दोन विद्यार्थ्यांचे निलंबन केले होते. यातील पीएचडी संशोधक असलेल्या अक्षय सावंत यांचे निलंबन मुंबई उच्च न्यायालयाने रद्द केले होते. अक्षयने एका माध्यम संस्थेला दिलेल्या प्रतिक्रियेत कॅम्पसमध्ये सर्वच सण साजरे होतात. दिवाळी, गणपती, होळी असे हिंदू सणही मोठ्या प्रमाणात साजरे होतात. त्यामुळे विशिष्ट धर्माचे सण साजरे होतात, असा आरोप चुकीचा आहे, असे वक्तव्य केले होते. यात संस्थेची कुठेही बदनामी नसताना प्रा. सूर्यनारायण दूल्ला यांच्या शिस्तपालन समितीने अक्षय याला 28 एप्रिल 2025 ला आठ महिन्यांसाठी निलंबित केले. संस्थेने त्याच्या अपिलाला प्रतिसाद न दिल्याने अक्षयला उच्च न्यायालयात धाव घ्यावी लागली होती. एका विद्यार्थ्यांला माध्यमांना प्रतिक्रिया दिली म्हणून 13 महिन्यांसाठी निलंबित केले होते. तसेच त्याचा निलंबनाचा काळ संपल्यानंतर अद्याप वसतिगृह दिले गेले नाही. हा विद्यार्थ्यांचा छळ आहे, अशी प्रतिक्रिया एकाने दिली. वृत्तपत्रांना प्रतिक्रिया देणेही आयआयटी मुंबईत गुन्हा आहे, असेही हा विद्यार्थी म्हणाला.

भाषणानंतर दोन महिने काढले गावी जाऊन...
अन्य एका घटनेत दर्शन सोळंकी याच्या आत्महत्येनंतर कॅम्पसमध्ये आंदोलन सुरू होते. त्यावेळी या देशातील प्रमुख शिक्षणसंस्था जातिवादी आहेत, अशा आशयाचे भाषण एका विद्यार्थ्याने दिले होते. त्यावेळी काही हिंदुत्ववादी संघटनांनी याबाबत पोलिसांत तक्रार दाखल केली होती. मात्र एसटी समुदायातून येत असल्याने कोणतीही कारवाई झाली नाही. त्यामुळे आयआयटी मुंबईत प्रा. दूल्ला यांच्या अध्यक्षतेखाली शिस्तपालन समिती स्थापन झाली होती. समितीने या वक्तव्यासाठी दोन महिन्यांसाठी या विद्यार्थ्याला हॉस्टेलमधून काढले होते. मुंबईत राहणे शक्य नसल्याने त्याला गावी जावे लागले होते. यातून दोन महिन्यांचे शैक्षणिक नुकसान झाले, अशी माहिती आयआयटीतील अन्य एका विद्यार्थ्याने दिली.
'त्या' विद्यार्थ्यांचे निलंबन रद्द करण्याची मागणी
प्राध्यापक दूल्ला हे अनेकदा छोट्या घटनांसाठी विद्यार्थ्यांवर मोठी कारवाई करत असत. त्यातून विद्यार्थ्यांना तणाव येत होता. याबाबत विद्यार्थी बोलत असत. त्यामुळे विद्यार्थ्यांवर कारवाई करताना ती किती असावी याबाबत योग्य विचार होणे आवश्यक आहे, असे आयआयटी मुंबईतील माजी विद्यार्थी संदीप सावरकर यांनी सांगितले. तसेच यापूर्वी प्राध्यापक दूल्ला यांनी केलेल्या कारवाईतील बाधित विद्यार्थ्यांचे निलंबन सरसकट रद्द करावे, अशी मागणीही सावरकर यांनी केली.
