@PracticalTheolo In my view, Matthew is repurposing this passage in a New Covenant way. This is why he changes the wording. He's not saying that this passage was secretly about Jesus. It's the same way he uses Hosea 11:1, "out of Egypt I called my son." Matthew sees a pattern and is showing that.
