@KernCMC @Mathgarden Education should be a place where students can find their own happiness without having to always meet standards. For instance, standardized tests are being pushed so hard to cram in information, but students never truly grasp all the material to carry on to the next grade.

@Mathgarden @KernCMC @Buzzmath I also love the idea of badges. It would keep students motivated, and can be created with gold, silver, and bronze as different tiers to reach for, but also still keep them motivated to push themselves.

@KernCMC @Mathgarden A portfolio is an alternative form of traditional grades. K-12Th grade students, as well as college students can use this method with the use of technology. It helps rid of the competition associated with standard grading, and bring about joy for a subject or skill.

@Dominiq71162938 @KernCMC @Mathgarden I appreciate your comment about developing a positive attitude about math. So many students have the preconceived view that they’re going to hate math, because they haven’t been exposed to it in a fun learning environment.

@KernCMC @Mathgarden In order to wake up the true love for mathematics, it important to teach students that numbers have connections and patterns. Just like students enjoy poking their fingers in dirt or slime, make math something inviting and hands on.

@Jessica53868217 @KernCMC @Mathgarden Playing dice is also a great game to play when introducing the concept of probability to upper elementary students. I like how so many games can be used to teach new math concepts.

@KernCMC @Mathgarden Replacing the norms of learning math with play, through math games, will enhance their strategic thinking, mental arithmetic, spatial reasoning, and critical thinking skills. This will change students thinking about math and work otherwise unused parts of their brain.

@KernCMC #MathRecess should be an expressive and creative environment using mathematical practices such as building LEGO’s, or playing with dice. Adopting a kindergarten mindset is essential for older children as they begin to only see math as an abstract thing . #EDEL5200
