Great news for Calgary community associations today.
Council unanimously passed my Notice of Motion focused on exploring new ways to support community association infrastructure, sustainability, and fundraising opportunities.
A major component of the motion is looking at options that could help community associations access donations and charitable tax receipt mechanisms more effectively. This has the potential to unlock new fundraising opportunities for facility upgrades, capital projects, community programming, and neighbourhood improvements.
Community associations provide incredible value to Calgary through the work of dedicated volunteers, and this motion is about helping give them additional tools and resources to continue serving residents for years to come.
I appreciate the unanimous support from Council on this important initiative.
Today, the Ward 11 team got a firsthand look at the incredible work Calgary firefighters do every day at Fire Ops 101. 🚒
Fire Ops 101 gives you a real appreciation for the skill, teamwork, and training behind every emergency response. Even in a controlled environment, you quickly see how demanding the work is - and why proper staffing, equipment, and support are so important to public safety.
Huge thanks to Calgary Fire for an unforgettable team-building day and for everything you do to keep our city safe.
Ward 11 residents! I’ll be attending tonight’s engagement session regarding the proposed 90 Avenue/Acadia Drive S.E. mobility improvements project from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Acadia Rec Centre.
This project includes proposed pathway, bike lane, traffic calming, and accessibility changes along the corridor through Acadia, Maple Ridge, and Willow Park. The City is currently gathering public feedback on several design options. (https://t.co/zwF97i3YFT)
I want to hear directly from residents about your concerns, priorities, and ideas before any decisions move forward.
If you live in the area or regularly use the corridor, I encourage you to come out, ask questions, and share your feedback.
Hope to see you there tonight.
Today I voted against Calgary’s proposed Water Efficiency Plan.
Let me be clear: I support responsible water use, protecting our rivers, and investing in long-term infrastructure resilience. But I could not support a plan that asks residents to permanently change their behaviour before City Hall fully addresses its own system failures.
Right now, Calgary is losing approximately 115 million litres of treated water every single day through leaks in the system — roughly 42 billion litres per year. Based on the City’s own residential consumption figures, that is equivalent to the annual water use of more than 260,000 Calgary households.
Fixing leaks and aging infrastructure must be the top priority.
The City’s own advisory group acknowledged that Calgary’s water system remains in a precarious position until critical feedermain upgrades are completed, and that leak detection, repair, monitoring, and preventative upgrades need to be prioritized.
I also remain concerned about: • vague timelines and unclear performance targets for reducing water loss, • a history of approved infrastructure projects being delayed or rolled forward year after year, • the fairness and practicality of proposed tiered water rates, • and the possibility that permanent restrictions on residents become normalized while the City continues to struggle with core infrastructure delivery.
Calgarians stepped up during the water main crisis. People conserved water when it truly mattered, and I believe voluntary conservation during emergencies makes sense. But permanent behavioural restrictions and additional costs on residents should not come before measurable accountability from the City on fixing the infrastructure it already owns.
My position is simple: Get the basics right first. Fix the leaks. Repair and replace aging infrastructure. Improve accountability and transparency. Then evaluate what additional measures are truly necessary.
That is why I voted no today.
Western Canadian oil is selling for the cheapest in the world because we landlocked our oil 😪
Some economist please calculate how many billions we are losing because we don’t have Northern Gateway right now

Congratulations to the 5th Quarter on moving this project to this point.
There are numerous proposals with respect to renewing McMahon and Foothills but very little meaningful progress on any of those plans.
The spirit, leadership and tenacity of Dinos Football is world class!
Ward 11 Coun. Rob Ward says residents don't feel like they're being heard anymore. He says his goal is to "put us onto the path of restoring trust." Ward 11 has had 86 development permits enabled by citywide rezoning, the second most out of the city's 14 wards.
@AlertCalgarian@ShaneWenzel I agree Al,
Big homes will always exist.
But we also need smaller, more affordable options for first-time buyers.
@ShaneWenzel makes other valid points, we just need implementation.
The idea that housing prices simply need to come down to fix affordability misses the bigger picture.
If you actually want homes people can afford, you have to look at the full cost stack, not just the final price.
What about lowering personal taxes so families can qualify for homes in the first place?
What about rethinking Net Zero mandates that add significant upfront cost without improving affordability?
What about shrinking the layers of government that slow everything down?
What about cutting red tape that delays projects and drives up prices?
And yes, what about every level of government taking a hard look at the fees they add to each home?
You cannot regulate your way to affordability while adding cost at every step.
If we are serious about solving this, we need to stop pretending price is the problem and start fixing what is driving it.
@RobWardCGY Thanks Rob - great town hall. I appreciate that you listen to your constituents, being forthright, and engaging with all ideas. I’m happy I supported your campaign and we made a great choice for councillor. You are going to make a positive impact on our community and City.
@Christina_CC@TaylorKYYC@RobWardCGY This is the very definition of what being a counsellor is about. It’s about representing the views of your community and the only way to do that. Is you gotta listen to the people in your community
After the overwhelming response to our first town hall, we’ve decided to host a second one to make sure more residents have the opportunity to join the conversation.
I’m hosting another Ward 11 Town Hall, and I hope you’ll join me for a focused, straightforward discussion about what’s ahead for our community.
Event Details:
• 📅 Thursday, March 19, 2026
• 🕖 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
• 📍 Meadowlark Park Community Association
We’ll focus on the upcoming Blanket Rezoning Public Hearing on March 23, along with key City initiatives affecting Ward 11 and broader updates impacting the City of Calgary. I’ll also leave plenty of time for Q&A and open discussion so I can hear directly from you.
You can RSVP and view event details here: https://t.co/xPy8BUQjnA
Under the Municipal Government Act (MGA), Councils must hold a public hearing before giving second reading to bylaws that change land use or zoning (like reversing blanket rezoning). These hearings are designed so the public, especially people affected, can be heard before Council makes a decision.
That’s why a Public Hearing is scheduled, it’s not just a practice, it’s a legal requirement to meet MGA obligations before Council proceeds with amendments to land use bylaws.
Great meeting with Minister Tanya Fir, MLA for Calgary-Peigan.
We discussed our shared communities - Riverbend, Quarry Park, Douglas Glen, and Douglasdale - and the importance of maintaining open dialogue between municipal and provincial government partners to best benefit our constituents.
This introductory meeting was a positive first step toward collaboration and communication moving forward.
It’s clear that the approaches of the past aren’t keeping our community protected. We need to rethink how we plan, invest, and respond so we can avoid situations like this in the future.
