In Monday’s lecture I realized how powerful advertisements are. When I filed my taxes the first thing that came into my head was TurboTax. Anyone else have a similar story?#UWJ201 #312
After attending The First Amendments talk it provided me with insight on how certain mindsets can be shamed into fitting in with the common theme. Anyone have other thoughts?#UWJ201 #312
@BowdenBeyer Yes, I think we see this every day with spam callers and weight-loss ads that are grounded in fallacies. The scary part is that people realize what I mentioned above. #UWJ201 #312
The Cascio studies changed the way that I perceive ads. It is scary that subconsciously an ad can make you think negatively or positively about a certain "thing". Seems like propaganda. Any thoughts? #UWJ201 #312
After attending a panel of prominent speakers on the First Amendment and its role on college campuses I realized how important freedom of speech is. Anyone else come to a different conclusion? #UWJ201 #312
Due to the fact that everything users search online is recorded is it an invasion of privacy when our search history is sold to third parties or not? #312 #UWJ201
After learning reading about the peripheral and central routes I am left to wonder which affects the viewer the most. Personally, I think the peripheral affects me the most anyone else disagrees? #UWJ201 #312
Can anyone think of a solution to the current problem that we see with social media polarization? Personally, I think the biggest problem is the current algorithms that are in place. #UWJ201 #312
@hannahritvo1 I think the only way to stop these problems is to get the law involved. Obviously, these social media platforms have no morals and so the only way to solve the problem is by involving the government. #J201 #312
@EthanRisch1 I completely agree. One thing that I have seen become more common by media companies is adding opinion to something that could easily be reported otherwise. #J201 #312
One problem that I have with the news is that it seems to confirm the beliefs that viewers already have. Can anyone think of possible solutions to this? #UWJ201 #312
@elliemilius1 @sanjmuralidhara To give a more realistic example if I were to criticize the practices of a certain religion would that be considered hate speech. I think open dialogue is a crucial part of American culture. #UWJ201 #312
@elliemilius1 @sanjmuralidhara If I were to say the word homework attacked me given the fact that I am a person would that then be considered hate speech? My point is who determines what "extreme" examples of hate speech are.#UWJ201 #312
Given that hate speech is protected under the first amendment do you think that Donald Trump should have been removed from social media platforms given the fact that he did not clearly incite violence, also do you think that social media companies have too much power?#UWJ201 #312
In my discussion yesterday I was asked whether or not big media companies need to become public utilities that would be protected by the first amendment. How would this work if this idea came to fruition, also is there a good enough reason for this?#UWJ201 #312
