@Tifanosaurus Both tea & coffee are noted for their oxalate content, and calcium oxalate crystals are documented in tea plants, so it’s not too surprising you observed them in Coffea. I did a quick search and found this paper that reports CaOx in Coffea: Belgian J of Bot 130(1):47-58
@uazgeos@theNASciences One of my favorite professors (geochronology, stable isotopes in the environment). His courses were the most challenging and rewarding of my time as a graduate student @uazgeos. When I teach, I often try to emulate Jay, which of course is impossible.

@loopdlupien @PlumKaty I’m a coauthor on a #phytolith chapter. Any word on when the encyclopedia will actually be published in its final form? Our chapter went live late last year but the doi still points to that “Reference Module in…” and not the EQS 3rd edition.
@croos_SMU Yeah I think so. Bluesky and Mastodon are the two that come to mind. I just don’t have the time or energy to migrate over, so here I am, lol…
My department is hiring a TT position in GIS and remote sensing. We are looking for a multidisciplinary researcher with a PhD in a geoscience related field. The department is home to anthropology, geography, geology, and envi geoscience courses. https://t.co/ukdnsB3p1Q
@cj_campisano It barely works in our building and has been a problem for years when the humidity is high. It’s 28 this morning in my office with probably 70% humidity.
It begins! I'm teaching three classes this semester. It's so hot here (111 heat index in #TerreHaute, IN) I handed out popsicles in my #GlobalClimateChange class. Also, two cars started on fire in one of the parking garages, and my office is 30C with ~70% humidity. #heatdomedoom
Ancient apocalypses are so disappointing. The archaeological and paleoclimate records usually lack the resolution to see how meteorites or volcanoes mattered to our ancestors.
