I’ve noticed a trend in my country. It’s a tough time for petit-thieves lately. The dehumanisation and public shaming of anyone caught stealing have reached another level—sometimes for comic relief, other times as an outlet for built-up frustration.
While I discourage theft, our anger feels misdirected. Every time I see these videos, I remember that the NNPCL cannot account for ₦210 trillion (210,000,000,000,000)… and I nod in utmost derision , “if only the poor know how rich the rich are” … then I sigh in deep contempt, “if only the masses know who the actual criminals are”.

It is utterly baffling that, amid widespread hunger and penury across Nigeria, over a billion naira has been allocated in the 2026 budget to a purportedly “non-existent” agency — while the EFCC and ICPC remain deaf, dumb, and blind to the scandal.
These so-called anti-corruption agencies are toothless bulldogs, selective in their pursuits & target only the poor masses.

I genuinely believe Nigerians are not angry enough.

Anthropic Just Shot Itself in the Foot

Anthropic launched Fable 5 and Mythos 5, then watched the US government shut them down three days later. The same government their CEO Dario Amodei has been begging for years to regulate AI harder. Now he got exactly what he asked for.

This is straight-up leadership failure. Dario spent all that time pushing for rules and oversight. Those rules just killed his flagship models overnight. Customers in the middle of builds got cut off. Security teams using the models to find vulnerabilities suddenly had nothing. The company tried to call it a narrow export control thing over a jailbreak, but nobody is buying that spin.

I helped move big clients off Anthropic the same night. One account alone was worth millions a month. They switched to local open-source models and they are not coming back.

This is going to leave permanent damage. Customer exodus, key people leaving, and their IPO plans looking dead by the end of summer.

This hurts US AI competitiveness and national security work. It pushes people toward open-source options, including ones from China.

All because Anthropic positioned itself as the “safe and responsible” company that wanted government help. Now that help just flipped the off switch on their best stuff.

Let’s run through Dario’s greatest hits of fear-mongering and delay tactics, because the pattern is ridiculous:

• Back in 2019 at OpenAI, he helped push the call that GPT-2 was too dangerous to release fully. The world needed time to prepare, they said. It eventually came out anyway, and here we are. Did the sky fall?

• He left OpenAI to start Anthropic, preaching “safe” AI with heavy guardrails, Constitutional AI, and all the rest.

• Then came the endless public pleas for pauses, regulations, government audits, FAA-style oversight, export controls, and the power to block deployments. Essay after essay warning about risks while his company kept scaling.

• Right up to recent weeks, Dario was still out there calling for stronger rules, pauses on frontier models, and giving governments the kill switch.

And now? His own Mythos-class models get yanked by the bureaucracy he helped invite in. The clown show is complete.
This is ridiculous.

In two years, everyone will have Mythos-class AI — or better — running in their pocket, on their devices, with no guardrails, no corporate nanny filters, and no remote kill switch.

Local, open-source, unstoppable. History is going to laugh at this entire episode: the CEO who spent years slowing everyone down only to watch his own company self-destruct by inviting the regulators to the party.

Dario wanted regulation. He got it. The rest of the industry gets the lesson: inviting the state into your tech is a fast way to lose control of it.

Centralized models like this are too fragile.

Open-source and local alternatives just picked up a lot more users who will never trust a company like Anthropic again.

This whole mess was completely avoidable. Hubris dressed up as safety advocacy.

Now the bill is due.

LISTENING IN: Privacy Researcher Finds Anthropic’s Claude Desktop App Installs Undisclosed Native Messaging Bridge

A detailed technical analysis published by privacy and security researcher Alexander Hanff has raised serious concerns about Anthropic’s Claude Desktop application for macOS. Hanff, whose work is frequently referenced by Chief Privacy Officers and cybersecurity professionals, discovered the issue while auditing Native Messaging helpers on his own MacBook.

According to the blog post, installing the Claude Desktop app automatically deploys a Native Messaging manifest file named com.anthropic.claude_browser_extension.json into the support directories of multiple Chromium-based browsers.

This occurs even for browsers the user has never installed or does not use!

The manifest file references a local binary located inside the https://t.co/wOrSj0VaXG bundle at /Applications/Claude.app/Contents/Helpers/chrome-native-host. This binary functions as a bridge that allows pre-authorized browser extensions to communicate directly with the Claude Desktop app outside the browser’s sandbox, operating at full user privilege level via standard input/output.
Key technical findings include:

•The bridge pre-authorizes three specific Chrome extension IDs.
•It is designed to remain dormant until activated by one of those extensions.
•The manifest files are automatically recreated every time the Claude Desktop app launches, making permanent removal difficult.
•Installation activity is logged in ~/Library/Logs/Claude/main.log, with timestamps confirming the files were written regardless of whether the browsers were present or supported.

Hanff notes that the silent installation without user disclosure or consent is the central issue.
Privacy, Security, and Potential Legal Implications.

Corporations should not only note this but assume this is taking place.

The researcher characterizes the behavior as “pre-installed spyware capability” for several reasons:

•No clear notification or opt-in is provided to users during installation.
•The process modifies configuration files across multiple browser vendors and creates directories for non-existent browsers.
•Once active, the bridge could potentially expose authenticated web sessions (e.g., banking, email, or health portals), read decrypted page content, or enable automation.
•The generic naming and automatic re-creation obscure the mechanism, resembling “dark patterns.”

Hanff further contends that the practice may violate Article 5(3) of the EU’s ePrivacy Directive, which requires explicit consent before storing or accessing information on a user’s device.

In response, he has issued a formal Cease and Desist letter to Anthropic, demanding that the company update the app to require explicit user opt-in (for example, only after the corresponding Chrome extension is installed) within 72 hours, or face further legal action.

This revelation highlights ongoing challenges in the AI industry as companies develop increasingly “agentic” tools that require deep system and browser access.

While such technical bridges are sometimes necessary for advanced functionality, transparency, documentation, and user control are considered essential by privacy advocates.

Anthropic as expected has not issued a public statement addressing the specific allegations.

Users who have installed Claude Desktop on macOS are advised be sure they like this idea.
