Hon’ble MP Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, met veterinary interns observing a sit-in protest over their stipend demand. The interns are seeking an increase in their monthly stipend from ₹6,000 to ₹23,000. The MP listened to their concerns and assured them of his support in taking up the matter with the concerned authorities.

I fought against the undemocratic changes imposed upon us by BJP RSS on Aug 5, 2019. I looked behind my back, I saw my party having abandoned the fight.

I fought against the Waqf amendment bill, again I looked behind me and saw that my party has abandoned the fight. They could not even muster the courage to bring a resolution against it in the J&K Legislature. Punjab and some states in South did.

I fought against the imposition of stanzas of Vande Mataram, because its imposition is unconstitutional. I look behind and see that my party has not only abandoned the fight but have fallen in line to BJP & RSS in submission.

At a time when minorities are being pushed to the wall, let's not normalise the communal onslaught of the RSS and BJP. If we do not stand up for their legitimate concerns across India, who will?

We are the largest Muslim-majority — or, put differently, “minority”-majority — region in the Union of India. That should make us more sensitive to the religious beliefs and concerns of minorities.

Jammu & Kashmir has a historical opportunity to stand for what is right. Let’s not squander that chance.

These are hard times. They call for statesmanship, sensitivity and courage — not another compromise.
