On this Oromo Martyrs' Day, we solemnly honour the brave souls who sacrificed everything for liberty and justice. Their legacy inspires us to continue the quest for freedom. #GGO2024
Yesterday, eight teachers who were heading from the capital city to their assigned schools in Oromia Special Zone were brutally killed in Shawa Robit by Fano forces.
The OLF-OLA strongly condemns this heinous massacre of innocent educators. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.
The real "Shene" has been unmasked. Committing atrocities against civilians and then blaming the OLA has been a central part of the regime's propaganda strategy. Given the information blackout, there has been little pushback from the media or human rights groups against the regime's narrative concerning #Oromia. This report is merely the tip of the iceberg regarding the horrors committed by the regime's forces in Oromia. The urgent need for international scrutiny has never been more evident.
"A secretive committee of senior officials in #Ethiopia’s largest and most populous region, Oromiya, has ordered extra-judicial killings and illegal detentions to crush an insurgency there, a Reuters investigation has found."
"According to the report, Awalu recalled saying, “No matter who did the killing, let's just blame it on” the OLA “and put out the statement accordingly.”

As we welcome the New Year, the Oromo nation also commemorates the founding of the Oromo Liberation Army on this Guyyaa WBO (OLA Day).
May this year be marked by strides towards liberation and justice.

The recent round of peace talks aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in the Oromia region has been concluded without an agreement. In anticipation of a different reality for the Oromo people and the people of the country at large, the OLF-OLA involved its highest leadership in this round of the talks.
To pave the path for addressing the main demands of our people, the OLF-OLA tabled a series of inclusive proposals from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam to negotiate a space for a meaningful change in the governance of the Oromia region. True to form, the Ethiopian government was only interested in co-optation of the leadership of the OLA rather than beginning to address the fundamental problems that underlie the county´s seemingly insurmountable security and political challenges.
The country needs independent institutions that hold power to account, empower the public to determine their fate, and set the stage for the efficient utilization of our human and natural endowments. While we recognize that institution-building is an ongoing process, a historical opportunity to take a leap in the right direction has been lost because of Ethiopian government failed to course correct.

We have been seeing some questions (and confusion) about Oromummaa online.
To learn more about the theory of Oromummaa, check out our episode from 2021 in which we analyzed the article “Theorizing Oromummaa” by Prof. Asafa Jalata

Zerihun Wodajo's passing is a great loss to the Oromo nation. His music will always inspire and educate us about our culture, history, and the ongoing struggle for freedom and justice. May his soul rest in peace.
Today, on Oromo Martyr's Day (Guyyaa Gootota Oromoo), we honor those who gave their lives for the freedom of Oromia and the Oromo people. Let's carry on their legacy in unity and continue the fight for a free and just Oromia. #OromoMartyrsDay#GGO#Oromia
Today is Guyyaa Gootota Oromo.
It is the day we all collectively remember and honor Oromo martyrs, the men and women who for several generations have sacrificed their lives to protect the rights and dignity of the Oromo people and to struggle for Oromia's liberation.
On April 15th, in the early 1980s, the story of Irbuu Shinniga, or, the oath of Shinniga, was born, and with it, the yearly celebration of April 15th as Guyyaa Gootata (Martyrs Day), a day to remember all who have sacrificed for the cause of a liberated Oromia.
We are pleased to announce our "Voice of a Nation" series on the life of Ali Birra & his impact on the renaissance of Oromo music, culture & cultivation of national pride.
