The most powerful moment in your life is when you can accept responsibility for your actions & be accountable for them, including your mistakes. It’s a very powerful feeling, sense of identity/accomplishment when you stand up & say I'M the only person in control of my decisions!
PARENTS: One day, our kids will be finished playing sports and they will be adults raising their own kids. The best thing that we can do now is to teach them how to be good, happy people so they can, in turn, one day raise good, happy people!!
Parents: You’re raising a child, not an athlete. Teach them respect, hard work, how to be a good person. Show them what character & work ethic are. Hold them accountable. Teach them that they won’t ever get what they don’t earn. Strong, well-rounded kids find success much easier!
This 11U crew formed this week for the AAU Jr. Circuit - The Nationals Tourney @D1Minnesota and took 3rd place! Fun group to coach too. @bthompsonprmgn1 @D1MinnesotaTom
Local training, work when you want, all local events, get paid for watching games and gain experience in event production and event management with a fast growing company as a contract staff member @ballertv.
Why do middle school basketball parents think it’s a good idea to play so many games every weekend? Pianists don’t schedule concerts to get better. 🎹
Playing 100+ AAU games in a calendar year as an 7th grader is way too many miles on your body at a young age.
Got to watch AAU basketball all weekend. Things of serious concern:
Contested finishes, average of over 20 missed lay ups in every game I watched
Shooting Mechanics
Catch & shoot 3’s
Passing vs. pressure
Attacking closeouts
On ball defense
Footwork into shots
Decision Making
No crowds. Empty gyms. No coaches or teammates around. Just a ball, a basket & your imagination. This is when you show your dedication, your passion, your work ethic. This is when you self motivate, work solo & make gains. Great players get better even when no one is watching!
If you really want to improve, then you better get really uncomfortable in your off-season training. Your off-season work should be a lot more challenging & ambitious than your in-season. Learn it, apply it, rep it! Work outside the box! Nothing ever grows in the comfort zone.
Elite defensive decision-makers:
1. Know how much to help
2. Know when to help
3. Always see help the helper
4. Know how far they can pressure
5. Know when to dig on the post
6. Can see when a teammate is beat
7. Can see when a teammate is going to stay in front
Believing in yourself is arguably the most important requirement for success! Confidence built through putting in a ton of work, fighting through adversity, developing the ability to handle criticism & accept coaching helps you become mentally strong & inspires you to improve!
