We often pursue proxies (wealth, status, achievement) for what we actually want (connection, love, meaning). It's safer in some ways because professional success feels more "controllable" than relationships.
The vulnerability gap - Giving and receiving love requires vulnerability. Building a company, optimizing a resume, hitting the next comp tier - these feel less exposing than saying "I need connection" or "I want to be valued for who I am, not what I produce."
The cultural reinforcement - Tech culture especially celebrates the grind, the ambition, the "impact." It's much easier to say "I'm working on something that matters" than "I'm lonely" or "I want to feel seen."

There are so many hackathons in Silicon Valley.
I suggest choosing one where the project can actually be preserved and continuously used afterward.
If the results from three days of work can continue being used - whether it’s building an app for the hosting company or creating a product using AI service providers - the most important thing isn’t just to participate and experience it, but to actually leave behind a product that users will keep using. This is what the true meaning of a hackathon should be.
11/7-11/9 - Starting Friday at noon. Each participant has been interviewed multiple times in advance, for several hours, and all the topics are prepared. With limited funding, they really, truly need this and will really, truly use it.
For the past two months, me and my team have been busy preparing for this year’s Tech for Good Camp. Although the process has been tough, fortunately, I’ve connected with eight nonprofit organizations. Each organization has been established for over five years and has at least three full-time staff.
We have communicated back and forth with all of them numerous times, from initially confirming the intention to collaborate to working together on the topics for the event. We hope that through this three-day event, we can provide them with the most useful help possible.
Now the topics are ready, and we’re just waiting for kind and capable tech talents to join us!
PM, engineering, data, and UX roles are all welcome.
AI, ML, or regular tech background — all are good.
As long as you have tech skills, you are welcome.
