@elonmusk This just happened to me a few min ago. The car to right aggressively changed lane without seeing me at all. FSD made a perfect move to get out of the way.
I don't think it would had been able to respond as fast as FSD here. FSD 14.2.2.5 is amazing.
Thanks Elon!!!
@mikepat711 💯.
It is clearly a early version and tuning is clearly urgently needed.
Why not just update everyone with the advanced software toggled.?
They need real ussge data by why not focus on the group who wants access to these early versions..?
@DavidMoss@contractorsPOV Good as. I just had one of my worst FSD dives on 14.3.3 just now.
It is super hesitant and will.not progress on green and stop signs if there is any reason to stop.
I ended up driving manually.
Fingers crossed for rapid progress from here.
It is correct that 3 phase AC is essential for modern and efficient motor applications where variable RPM can be closely controlled.
This is the case for all modern EVs + modern AC units + everything that needs a electric motor with controllable RPM.
However the main architecture for all these systems is DC.
Like in the Tesla and all EVs the battery and HV system is DC and this is converted the AC by the inverter with the frequency of this AC controlling the RPM of the motors.
This AC is very different from the grid 50/60Hz AC.
Grid AC is used to run things like Air Condition units but even for that application DC with inverter controls is now making inroads with better efficiency and control
@SeasonedWorker@liorsela Yes, but I agree with their approach to optimize as much as possible for the AI4 hardware.
Hopefully things progresses fast from here
Very true. The last EC was concerning and the announcement of AI4+ did not make any sense to me.
Fair enough if they are doing that by why announce it at at that time.
But FSD is not easy and they have to optimize AI4 as much as possible.
But v14.3.x needs some work..
I hope 14.3.x is a.major element of the v15 roadmap.
Hopefully new and improved versions soon..
But that raises the question. Fix 14.3.x first or 14 lite?
Agree. I have solar storage and EVs.
Today a lot of cost goes into converting DC to AC and back a number of times..
A DC bus would simplify things a lot.
All EVs has a on board charger basically a AC to DC converter...
Money and weight could be saved by removing it for DC only.
External AC converter could sold. Supercharging is all.DC..
I kind of expect Tesla to go in this direction over time.
It is exciting to hear this from Elon. He may have future products in mind...
I only AC charge at home so if a cheap DC home option with PowerWalls was available I could use supercharging only when away so basically no need for the on board AC charger....
Ok nerd mode...I get it..
True.
It will take time but DC is bringing a number of advantages.
I agree with Elon that over time we should expect a slow move towards DC for most applications.
Perhaps another disruption for Elon to lead...
Nvidia is pushing DC for data centers so I would be surprised to see future Elon data centers going all DC
@ParakletosSteve@elonmusk@brivael AC is dead for transmission.
It is very much alive for controlling motors. In the long run we will probably see AC mainly used for motor appliactions only
@BigHillbilly63@elonmusk@farzyness@brivael In the past yes but now DC is starting to replace AC for long distance transmission too.
The issue of step up and down is easier to do now by improved technology.
@Joe4CyberTesla@elonmusk@brivael 💯
China is leading the way for high voltage long range transmission.
DC brings a lot of benefits especially for water crossings.
Norway is connected to UK and Europe with sevreal high voltage DC cables
Absolutely false.
Hugh voltage DC is increasingly being used for long range transmission.
DC brings a number of benefits for that application too.
Superconductor is not critical to long range as the voltage can be extremely high.
Superconductor could make sense in a DC powered data center.
800v DC with extremely high currents enabled by Superconductors could power a data center eliminating a huge amount of transformers and other complexities.
💯 Elon.
DC is the way to go!
But we need a slightly crazy innovator with a lot of resources to push DC... I can think of one person in particular...
800V DC and hundred of k amps with superconductor distribution - No transformers in future Data centers would be pretty cool.
LFG DC!
