A thesis that may indeed explain more of the past century than many are comfortable contemplating.

It is also worth considering how powerful forces protect themselves behind ostensibly virtuous causes and identities, making scrutiny of the institutions or interests involved socially unacceptable. Once questioning those interests becomes conflated with attacking the people or causes they claim to represent, scrutiny carries real social and professional consequences.

The Labor Government has released an exposure draft of its Online Safety Amendment (Digital Duty of Care) Bill 2026 and it’s much worse than I first thought.

It mentions firearms more than 150 times, yet the ideology that motivated the attack — Islam — barely rates a mention.
