Nice to hear from you, Andy. Thanks for the by election. We live for such things.
I’m in no doubt life is tough for lots of folk in Makerfield. But it’s hardly a poster child for urban squalor/deprivation.
Thatcher left power in 1990. She was followed by seven years of unThatcher Major and 13 years of Labour government, of which you were a part. So it’s quite a stretch to blame her for any continuing woes. Unless we blame Labour for failing to put anything right.
On the other hand the houses you were walking past were bought by the tenants under Thatcher’s right to buy scheme, which has given them some pride in place and some wealth they once could only have dreamt of accumulating.
I assume your pledge to ‘renationalise housing’ does not include taking these homes back into public ownership ... even if that would constitute a proper, radical reversal of the Thatcherism you’re (some what bizarrely) campaigning against.
The politics of a country in decline. Not a single word about wealth creation, without which none of this nonsense can be financed. It’s deeply pathetic. If people fall for this left-wing populist drivel we’ve ceased to be a serious country.
Every measure you list involves spending wealth.
You don’t list one measure that creates wealth.
And if you don’t create wealth you will soon run out of it to spend, which is already happening (hence all your extra taxes and borrowing).
He wants to deploy UK forces we don’t have to keep oil and gas flowing 3,000 miles away but forbids any new investment in our sector of the North Sea. Bonkers.
The US/Israeli attack on Iran and the widening hostilities in the region are exposing the growing scandal that is Britain’s military capabilities, or lack thereof. We are still in the world’s top 5/6 on defence spending yet:
We don’t have a single warship in the whole of the Mediterranean, despite the eastern Mediterranean becoming part of the theatre of war.
We don’t have a single warship in the Gulf. We have a naval base in Bahrain. But a base with no ships.
We don’t have any subs to deploy. The one active Astute Class sub is in Oz.
We have a handful of fighter jets in Cyprus.
And a smaller handful in Qatar (attached to Qatari airforce).
That’s it. Most of what’s left of the Navy — not even in the top 30 in the world in terms of warships these days — seems to be in repair/maintenance/renovation. Brilliant MoD planning.
Labour/Tories/LibDems who all had a shot at government these past 16 years need to be held to account.
When Ed Davey says Brit expats in the Gulf should pay for UK protection, exactly what protection does he have in mind that would be worth paying for?
A tragedy is unfolding: aside from murdering women for showing their hair, hanging thousands for being gay, murdering their political opposition, cancelling democracy, killing thousands of their own citizens for peacefully demonstrating, plundering their nation’s wealth to line their own pockets, destroying Lebanon & Gazan society via their proxies, supporting Assad’s mass murder of his own people, murdering Jews whenever possible, supporting genocide against Jews and planning the annihilation of Israel while running an annual Holocaust-mocking cartoon competition, murdering hundreds of US servicemen, announcing it was planning the assassination of Donald Trump, making proxy wars against Sunni Arabs and relentlessly trying to build a nuclear weapon to potentially satisfy an apocalyptic religious prophecy by dropping it on Israel & generally planning the end of Western civilisation, what has the Iranian regime done to deserve this attack?
Tax his land, Tax his bed,
Tax the table, At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor, Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes are the rule.
Tax his work, Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts anyway!
Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat.
Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think.
Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears.
Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find any way To tax his ass!
Tax him all he has, then let him know
That you won't be done Till he has no dough.
When he screams and when he hollers;
Then tax him more, take all his dollars
Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in Which he's laid...
Put these words Upon his tomb:
‘Taxes drove me to my doom...'
When he's gone, Do not relax,
It's time to apply Inheritance Tax!

I urge you @GNev2 to come to Epping & speak to the parents of the 14 yr old girl that was sexually assaulted by an illegal immigrant at The Bell hotel.
Or the parents whose girls have been followed & harassed.
THIS VIDEO IS ASTONISHING.
WHAT ABOUT THE ANTI JEW HATRED & MASKED PROTESTERS ON OUR STREETS GARY ? - SILENT
Donald Trump has credited the British Empire with laying the foundations for free speech.
Addressing a banquet in honour of his second state visit to the UK, the US president said: “The British Empire laid the foundations of law, liberty, free speech and individual rights virtually everywhere the Union Jack has ever flown including a place called America.”
He added: “A fifth of all humanity speaks, writes, thinks, prays in the language born on these isles and perfected in pages of Shakespeare, Dickens, Tolkien, Lewis, Orwell, Kipling.
“The lion-hearted people of this kingdom defeated Napoleon, unleashed the industrial revolution, destroyed slavery and defended civilisation in the darkest days of fascism and communism.”
Mr Trump said Britain’s legal, intellectual, cultural and political traditions were among the “highest achievements of mankind”.
Rayner. My thoughts.
Do I blame somebody for trying to lawfully reduce their tax bill? No. Do I think she’s a stinking hypocrite who should resign? Yes.
It’s the hypocrisy I detest.
These people have layered regulation on regulation, hiking up tax and making the system increasingly impossible to navigate without expensive help.
It’s people like Rayner who cheered all this on, relentlessly. Had she raised concerns about the complexity of our system, and made attempts to reduce it, I would have more sympathy.
She didn’t, and I don’t.
Now she’s breaking down in tears, talking about her family and so on.
Quite frankly, I don’t care. Don’t pull that card.
She can’t expect the rest of the British people to pay their ‘fair’ share of tax, but when it comes round to her turn she ducks the swing. No thanks. It does not work like that.
Do the country a favour and resign.
Politics is increasingly about personality and not policy.
I am bored of it. The British people are bored of it.
Party politics is boring. I want to campaign on issues, not personalities.
Move on, Angela.
A Normal Day in Russia - A Thread🧵
⚠️ A Crazy thread, don’t miss it
1. A Russian soldier calmly throws away the bomb that falls from the Ukrainian drone like a ball, and then he did not even walk or runaway.
Savage 🔥
Legal immigration is a bigger problem than illegal immigration - we know the illegals have to go, that should go without saying in 2025. What about those who have come legally?
If you’re a foreign national living in Britain and unable to speak English? You should go home.
Living on benefits? Unable to support yourself and your family financially? You should go home.
In social housing? You should go home.
Taking more than you give? You should go home.
Breaking our laws? Hating our way of life? You should go home.
Found to be in any way abusing our system, or defrauding the British people who built this country? You should go home.
Foreign nationals should be welcomed into the country on a strict set of conditions, and if those conditions are broken - you should go home.
Review that all throughout the visa. If something significant changes, you should go home.
When a visa concludes, unless otherwise agreed, you should go home.
And yes, this should all include dependents.
We’re living in this ludicrous position where if someone makes it into the country once legally or illegally, they can just stay forever.
This should apply to the many millions of visas currently issued - with a future system radically reducing the entry numbers. For the foreseeable future, significantly more should leave than enter.
Significantly more - Net Negative Immigration.
It is not our responsibility to care for much of the third world. It’s just not.
Any self-respecting country would impose and enforce these rules, and we should too. The actual number impacted is entirely irrelevant.
If all of this results in a huge number of deportations, voluntary or enforced, then that is what must happen.
The average British person is working 40+ hours a week and struggling to make ends meet.
Pensioners who have paid into the system their whole life are being left to freeze.
Meanwhile these illegal invaders are still pouring in and being treated like royalty.
BRITAIN IS A JOKE.
