CFIB is very disappointed the federal government has ignored the pleas of tens of thousands of small business owners to give them more time to repay their Canada Emergency Business Account (#CEBA) loans in order to keep the forgivable portion.

As the January 18th #CEBA deadline approaches, CFIB is getting lots of questions on how the special March 28 refinancing extension works. As only limited information existed, CFIB asked govt/EDC for answers - here is what we've learned:
1. If you don't have the $ to repay your CEBA loan by Jan 18, you can get an extension to Mar 28 if you apply for a refinancing loan WITH THE SAME BANK that provided your CEBA loan on or prior to Jan 18. This will protect the forgivable portion of up to $20K.
2. There is no standard documentation requirement to prove you've applied before Jan 18. Govt is allowing each bank to determine its own process - you need to check with your bank.
3. Just applying for the refinancing loan with your CEBA bank will trigger the extension to Mar 28 - you don't need to actually take the loan from your CEBA bank to get the extra time to repay.
4. Everyone with an outstanding CEBA loan, including those who get the extension, will start paying 5% interest right away.
5. If your CEBA bank rejects your refinancing application (or already has), you still qualify for the extension to Mar 28. This allows you time to find the money elsewhere.
6. If your business has been deemed ineligible for CEBA (despite receiving and spending the money), you must repay the full amount by Dec. 31, 2023 with no extension - not even until Jan 18.
7. Govt has finally updated its CEBA FAQ. Details here: https://t.co/nGSX6rwOpd
